Is it possible to celebrate this Christmas with having a taste of chicken? Some say chicken makes the Christmas do you agree?
It's no news that we are already in the last month of the year we call December. December for many is a time to celebrate the birth of the Savior.
During this time, the month of December is characterised with high prices of items especially food and clothing.
This year alone the rate of increase in prices of food items has tripped. Transportation has also done same and many other aspects of life.
I decided to visit the market so that I can purchase chicken for Christmas season. I heard that once it's the week of Christmas, I may not get chicken to buy. And if I do, the price will be more outrageous.
I could not believe what I heard with my ears. The prices of chicken that the traders told me was far above the budget had in mind. I could not scream too much because as you are screaming that it is too expensive for you, someone else will come and buy it in your front and you will be left with nothing.
It almost happened to me. The market I visited is called word bank market. What3words. And the section I went to is the chicken section where chicken are sold.
I went to my customer to collect the chicken she said cost 13,000 naira only to find out she doesn't have that price anymore. she said that size is finished. Here is the new price she gave me.

I never believed that a time will ever come when we will buy chicken at 18000 naira. I pleaded with the seller to give me the big size at 13,000 she bluntly refused. She narrated how she went to the farm in the morning and came back spending 10,000 as transport but couldn't buy anything because what she saw was too expensive.
I got tired and pleaded again that she sells it at 14000 after much hesitation, she sold it. While I wait for her son to come and kill the chicken and clean it up. A woman came there pricing the chicken I already selected.
She said she didn't mind paying 16000 for that chicken. She didn't know that the new owner of the chicken was standing there. I smiled at her and told her the chicken was mine.
The son of the woman finally came, killed the chicken and soaked it into hot water so the the feathers will become soft and fall off.
I saw other chicken that has been killed and cleaned up waiting for their owners. When he was done, I collected my chicken and left but I could not erase the memory that things are getting more expensive every day was in this festive season.
These recent prices of chicken are actually the price we buy goats before but imagine that chicken is this expensive, what will then be the price of goat?
I went straight home, had shower and watch movies just to try to forget about how bad the economy has become.
