Greetings everyone

Greetings to you all in this community, I will giving my thoughts on the contest topic at hand "to Spend or Not to Spend" hosted by none other one of Nigerian finish and my buddy before before Lol 😆, @ruthjoe.

Before I dive right into the questions at hand, I would like to draw your attention to what today's topic is all about. I believe today's topic is centred on Government spending, so then, what is it all about?

Government spending refers to funds spent by the public sector of a state or country on the acquisition of properties and provision of services such as education, healthcare, social protection, and defence to the members of the state or country. That is to say, we would be looking at what a government needs to provide for its citizens to make life worth living and easier.

Tell us one thing in your country you believe the government should spend money on but doesn't.

It is the responsibility of the government to provide certain basic needs for its citizens to protect them, promote peace and unity, and enlighten them about their environs. But in this part of the world, we rather appreciate the fire brigade method of doing things. Wait on till something bad happens, then pretend to be proactive as a means of looting funds.

The one thing I would love my government to do for us is infrastructural development. By infrastructural development, I mean the construction of roads, bridges, schools, healthcare centres, bring about industries etc, as infrastructure is a capsule term for it all. These are all the fundamental rights of a citizen from its government.

These are what bring people together, bring about job creation, good health of citizens, and the technical know-how required of its citizens to survive and prosper. If you take to most of our Nigerian roads, even federal roads, you would know that our roads are abortion pills with numerous potholes.

Infrastructures open up any community to its development and development brings about wealth creation to its citizens in the form of employment and access to goods and services.

Tell us one thing they shouldn't spend money on but do.

The Nigerian government seem to spend money lavishly on a lot of things of which we only get to hear amounts on the news without work. Under this category, I would have said Election campaigns, but then, one can argue it's their private funds and not public funds.

So for this category, I would say the creation of numerous nonexistent ministries and offices all in the means to squander funds or should I say "loot funds" that are so many ministries and offices in Nigeria with identical goals but different names and budgets to different ministers and yet no results. Every one of them for their stomach ideology to loot public funds. We would save a lot of public funds if we cut down this identical office.

Is the government of your country good at providing its citizens with social amenities? Tell us about the two best social amenities you are enjoying in your country.

First, what are social amenities? These can be anything that strengthens social connections or extends social civility to people in a society, of which Infrastructural facilities (bus and taxi stand, automobile parks, public lavatories, etc.) Recreational structures (playgrounds, parks, games courts, sports fields, etc.) are included.

Nigeria as a community cannot even maintain the few they have, example is Our National Stadium in Abuja. As I earlier stated, most of our interstate and even intrastate roads are nothing to write home about. Just a few leaders her big pot-bellies in office. Thus, I can say I enjoy any social amenities from any government as most of the recreational centres and what have are owned by private citizens which were once government.

Nigeria is becoming famous for having no electricity, bad road networks, no clean drinkable water, zero health facilities (the very reason our leaders keep running overseas for health care), and no poor educational set-up. There is nothing we enjoy from the government as its citizens. We are just good at hoping for the best.

CONCLUSION

Government spending in Nigeria has been a significant problem for countless years and I feel better accountability is needed from our government. The government has got to cut unnecessary spending and help eradicate our numerous deficits.
