Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 33: Mother's Love; a time to celebrate and cherish

My mother Lucy was a woman with a heart of gold, she could light up an entire building with her infectious laughter and always ready to help anyone who crosses her path.

Although she wasn't born with a silver spoon, but I remember our home serving as a rescue from hunger to all the young boys in our neighborhood, maybe because she didn't have any male child but surrounded with six female children, she would took those boys as her own and feed them anytime they come around.

My mother's love went far beyond our children, she was a pillar of strength embracing life challenges with a smile on her face.

Though we grieve your loss mummy, your warmth and the thought of your selfless sacrifices would forever be a part of us.

👸In your understanding, who is considered a mother, and what are the duties of a mother?

In my understanding, there are two ways that one can be consider as a mother.
1: Biologically and
2: Nurturing

A woman that gives birth to a child, either through pregnancy or surrogacy is referred to as the child biological mother. WHILE

A woman who raises a child up regardless weather she gives birth to the child or not can be considered to be that child's mother. For instance; step mothers, foster mothers and adoptive mothers.

Mother's duties can be the general provision of a child's needs; ranging from:
Physical care
Emotional care
Discipline.
Education

Physical care: Such as providing food, shelter and clothing for the comfort of the child.

Emotional care: That is showing the child love, support the child and gives guidance where necessary.

Discipline: Teaching the child about morals, the right way he/she should go. The mother set boundaries to safeguard that.

Education: The first learning ground of every child is the family; it will give a child the opportunity to learn and grow as well.

👸What are some of the sacrifices that mothers make for their children?

A mother sacrifices has no end, she can go extra miles just to see her children feed.
Some of the sacrifices a mother can make for her children are;

Although I've not gotten pregnant or given birth before but I've witnessed my mother on several occasions; how pregnancy and child bearing has taken a toll on her body, the changes it has caused but she bore all of that with joy. That is the joy of motherhood (children).

They give their children their time: That's why some women would turn full time house wives by investing their time into their children. What a sacrifice!

Motherhood can be energy consuming, from endless tasks to emotional needs and supports to their children, it can be draining that they won't have time again for their personal pursuits. Mothers are rare gems.

Raising children is very expensive; sometimes mothers had to devise means of different streams of income to be able to take care of her family.

Oh my God! They sometimes give up on their own dreams and aspirations by prioritizing her children's needs first. They are angels in disguise.

👸How does a mother's love shape a person's character and development?

Through her resilience; when faced with challenges and difficulties, she provides support and comfort; this help the children to develop the ability to bounce back from difficult situations and setbacks.

Through caring for their children, a mother's love shapes a child by teaching them about love and empathy, and these would also help the children to build relationships with people.

Feeling loved by their mothers helps the children to have a sense of belonging and self-worth, and this will also help them to treat others with love and care.

A mother's love can also shape a child personality traits., that's why it is not good for any child to grow up in an abusive environment.

👸How can we celebrate and show appreciation for our mothers and their love?

Celebrating our mothers shouldn't be a day thing, some people celebrates their mothers on special occasions like; mother's day, her birthday and so on.

I appreciated my mother when she was alive by living a worthy life that won't bring shame to her name and the family; that would make people to ask "whose child is that". I am not bragging I was or I'm my mother's pride.

You can show your appreciation through little gestures like Thanking her after eating her plate of food, you can simply say "mummy thank you God bless you", infact that would make her want to give you more next time. Mothers appreciate a heart of gratitude no matter how minute is what she gave you.
