At first, I was impressed by some creativities on Social Media, and "Pranks" wasn't exceptional. But lately, I consider it as one of the lazy acts on Social Media, as a matter of fact, it doesn't interest me anymore. I just ended up blocking all the skit makers who only focus on prank skits.
For the record, that is not creativity, It is just a lack of content ideas generated by some set of lazy Individuals who think they can just toil with people's emotions just to make money. How selfish!!
Maybe the Prank skit is not popular in your country, but it is really popular in Nigeria. It was done by a few people in the time past, but now It becomes activities of the day, and every comedian wants to try even when such pranks are not even interesting and are too expensive.
Do you know what a prank is?
In one of the recent research I made in a dictionary, I really appreciate how to prank is being defined, let's borrow a leap from the Cambridge dictionary on the definition of Prank.
Behaviour that involves playing tricks that are intended to be funny but not to cause harm or damage: It was just harmless pranking. April Fool's Day is an occasion for much pranking. - Source
The definition above is what a Prank was supposed to mean - I can agree with that too, after all ..."All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy", unfortunately...many youths today are going extreme in Nigeria in the name of pranks in other to make money. And that's where I do not side!
It is not uncommon today in Nigeria how a touching trending video will go viral and after some days or weeks, the poster will say it was just a Prank.
It is not also uncommon how an expensive joke is played with someone that is suffering from high blood pressure forgetting what that could cause to the person's health...
Pranking has taken over Nigeria today unfortunately and that's why when something serious is happening to someone publicly the onlookers will not take it seriously because they already reasoned that it is a Prank.
Of course, I won't blame them, I have witnessed a situation like that before where we run to help someone in a shopping mall who slumped and seems to have difficulties in breathing and he was almost giving up the ghost, but to our greatest surprise, it was a prank, the Camera was right behind us.
The feeling we had wasn't a good one...the rest of the happening was just a story for the day, I'm sure they won't try it again.
Many unnecessary Skits and Pranks have made people not help others again when they seem to be in danger because they already have this mindset that it is a Prank even when It is not.
Just yesterday one family I know almost lost one of their brothers as he slummed into a coma because of a stupid prank played by his brother ( telling him that their elder brother is dead), I learned he has been warned on so many occasions but he keeps performing these lazy acts just to make money. Now the brother is in ICU (Intensive care unit) in a Federal medical hospital still in a coma, he had a heart attack, and I pray he survives.
That was too expensive and that's not creativity, It's just foolishness!
Nigerian Laws also Cover such actions and their penalties, but I doubt if those things are taken into consideration now. I think it's high time to make use of such laws, this will reduce the activities of these lazy Individuals. What are your thoughts on this? Have you noticed this in your country or area?

I loved the idea initially, it was thrilling but presently it has become sour, some extremist parading themselves as content creators or skit makers have gone overboard with it.
I agree with you that most of them have run out of ideas on what to do to keep appearing before their fans.
I saw one just yesterday and I could not but express my shock and displeasure.
The guy in the video saw a random lady on call, he snatched her phone (iPhone) smashed it and when it was getting rough between them, he was now like it's a prank and you failed because you weren't patient with me... Really? Which Nigerian would have reacted otherwise?
He actually gave her another, a better one but then it's uncalled for and the purpose was defeated as it actually passed no message. One can see from the comments that trailed the skit.
Content creators really need to up their games.

I specifically don't like It anymore, it actually doesn't make any sense at all. And these guys are overdoing It.
I am not praying to be a victim anytime soon, but if I should, I will definitely get the person arrested...maybe when he returns from there..., we would now talk about how the prank was.
That's not content for entertainment anymore in Nigeria.

No idea what the fun should be in these pranks... Not my kind of humour.

It is absolutely no more interesting in Nigeria. Most of these Comedians or skit makers are crossing boundries.
