Hello my fellow steemians, I am here again to participate in this contest which is all about the influence of parent over their children

Do you think it is okay for parents to influence the decisions of their children?

  • It's a difficult issue! Parents normally want the best for their children, and their decision could be beneficial. However, it is necessary to strike a balance between guidance and also autonomy.

Influence could be positive when:

Guiding values and principles: Parents put in their children important life values, ethics, and morals.

Sharing experiences and wisdom: Parents gives valuable insights from their own lives experience.

Supporting decision-making: Parents help children in developing critical thinking and skills in decision-making .

However, excessive influence can be harmful when:

Imposing choices: Parents dictate decisions, suppressing children's autonomy.

Limiting exploration: Parents restrict children from the opportunity of trying new things or making mistakes.

Creating dependence: Children put all their hope on their parents for decisions, which hinder independence.

Ultimately, parents should aim to:

-Encourage independence
-Foster critical thinking
-Gradually release control as children mature
-Guide without dictating
-Support self-discovery

By getting this balance, parents can help their children grow and get confident, become capable, and independent individuals.

Can a parent actually misguide their children in decision making?

Yes, a parent can misguide their children in decision-making, usually unintentionally. Here are some ways which this can happen:

Biased perspectives: Parents may take their own, fears, biases or limitations to their children, influencing their decisions.

Overprotection: Excessive protection could prevent children from exploring options and also learning from mistakes.

Projection of own dreams: Parents could push their own unfulfilled dreams to their children, rather than guiding their child's interests.

Emotional influence: Parents' emotional states, which includes anxiety or stress, may impact the children guidance and making of decision.

To avoid misguiding their children, parents can:

  • Practicing an active listening

  • Encouragement of exploration and independence

Providing a balanced information

Supporting their child's interests and passions I in life

By being aware of these potential pitfalls, parents can work Hard to provide guidance which supports their children's growth as well as their well-being.

Do you have any experience of your parents enforcing decisions for you against your will or experience of someone you know ?

I don't have personal experiences or emotions,

Many people have experienced having their parents or guardians making decisions for them and against their will, usually during their childhood and adolescence. This could be a challenging and potentially frustrating experience.

Some common examples include:

Setting boundaries or curfews

Choosing where to live

Choosing education or career paths

Deciding on extracurricular activities

Making decisions about social relationships

If you or someone you know is going through this, make sure that you remember that:

  1. Communication is key: Try having an open and honest conversations with your parents or guardians.
  2. Empathy and understanding: Try to understand things from their perspective and see their concerns.
  3. Self-advocacy: Learn to tell or show your own needs and wants.
  4. Seeking support: Talk to friends, family members, or professionals that are trusted for guidance and encouragement.
  5. Work together to find an acceptable solutions.

Remember, it's essential to show respect to your parents' concerns while also dealing your own autonomy and decision-making capabilities.

During the time of marriage or when deciding a course to study in school, what is the place of parents in giving their children guidance?

Parents play a crucial role in guiding their children during important life decisions, such as choosing a course of study or choosing a marriage partner. below are how parents can provide guidance:

Choosing a course of study:

  • Explore interests: Help your child to identify their passions and their strengths.
  • Career guidance: give information about various careers and their requirements.
  1. Encourage research: Support your child in researching different courses and institutions.
  • Set realistic expectations: Help your child to understand the importance of choosing a course that goes with their strength and interests.
  • Respect their decision: amongst all, respect your child's decision and offer guidance without bringing in your will.

Selecting a marriage partner:

  • Values and principles: impact in your child your child good values and principles to look for in a partner.
*. Communication: Encourage open communication about their relationship and partner.
Red flags: Warn your child about red flags, which includes abuse or dishonesty.
  • Support their decision: Respect your child's decision, even if you don't fully agree with it.
  • Offer wisdom: tell them your life experiences and give guidance without being judgmental.

In both cases, parents should:

  • Pray for wisdom and guidance (if applicable).
  • Encourage independence and decision-making.
  • Offer support and resources.
  • Provide guidance without being controlling or imposing.
  • Respect their child's autonomy.
