Introduction About My Country (Nigeria)

image.png

Nigeria my dear country cannot be thrown away with the bad waters. Despite the shortcomings and its limitations, it has shown some level of greatness and strength. My country got its independence in 1960 which is approximately 62 years after independence. It was observed to undergo some battles of its life shortly after her independence which included a Civil War as well as a series of Military coups that topple and re-topple governments in a competitive manner.

Looking at its present, it currently became a democratic government in 1999 which has tarried until this time without any military truncation and with the emergence of Olusegun Obasanjo as the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces (GCFR). The democratic setting comes with a representation of the three (3) arms of government which include the Executive, Legislative, and the Judiciary. The entrance of the Legislative is the distinctive feature that separates it from the military era and hence gives power to the masses via its representatives.

The country is carved based on geopolitical zones with the buildup of 6 zones names; South West, South-South, South East, North East, North West, and North Central respectively. In each of these zones, there is a number of states that make up each of them with the FCT hosting the seat of power where we have the President.

The country is made up of two major religions which is Christianity and Islam though there are still other small religions in the country. More so, the country has since been dominated by two parties namely; the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC). But let's remember that Nigeria is a multi-party system where there is a proliferation of different parties so far they meet up with the demands and requirements for registration.

What are the great things that interest you about your country

image.png

My dear country has been nick-named Giant of Africa. This context isn't a joke but due to the relevance and role, it has played in the comity of nations vis-a-vis the solemn interest of Africans. She is known for several notable and great things thus far and I would be at liberty to mention a few.

* The Film Industry

The Nigerian film industry over the years has received a boom in its Frontline with several accolades received as a film body as well as on the individual capacity of her participants (artists_actress and actors). Nollywood has been nominated as the third best film body in the world after Hollywood and Bollywood. This fit was achieved from the quality and quantity of movies produced through its body. More importantly, it also opened a door that serves as means of employment for the Nigerian people.

* Variety of Foods and Agricultural Diversity

The country is blessed with arable land that grows virtually everything planted in it. There's less use of fertilizer in commercial quantity for the purpose of persecuting agricultural production. Different states have their comparative advantage to produce different agricultural products which see some regions having pyramids of groundnut, other regions having high rubber and cocoa production, and the rest oil palm and coal. Crude oil production is predominantly a major exchange earner.

* Musical and Comedy Industry

Nigeria's Musical Industry is that which has brought so much transformation into the Nigerian system. Its transformation has brought about a change of scenario in the music and comedy sector with a larger amount of audience drawn to its activities. It has since brought international recognition to its relevance since this transformation. Most importantly, it has brought a form of youth employment to this sector with the ability to draw thousands of talents to itself. Some of the platforms observed to showcase some of this talent are Project Fame, Nigeria Idol, and Voice Naija.

* Liberalization of Medical Access

This is one of the few things we all grew up with which sometimes are abused due to how unstable the system is. Though is has its benefits given to the level of poverty in the society as well as the system classified as an under-developed nation. I believe strongly that most developed and developing countries have a system that allows for procedural access to medication unlike what we grew up here with a little relaxed policy. We have a situation where patience diagnoses their ailment through its symptoms and buy across-the-counter medicine for medics. Though there's a negative impact on this system, one can say it has helped the ordinary man who cannot afford the services of both public and private healthcare services.

Which of the things mentioned above do you prefer your country for, over other countries?

image.png

I would have said all but some of them can as well be accessed even while there. Just like the Music and Comedy sessions which can be accessed through online platforms and still get the same vibes. Sometimes, these artists are also invited across the shores to perform which also brings the same feeling down.

Our Agricultural food though can also be seen over there but this comes with a relatively high cost. The variety of food inherent in my country is enough to make one love and prefer home over anyone else.

Lastly, liberalism has seen in the access to medication without necessarily having to go through the hurdles of medical personnel. I have a sister who went over to the United Kingdom (UK), she said getting an affidavit for a medical waiver is like going through a medical checkup and not just like what we get indiscriminately down here. Access to medical care firstly requires an appointment with a doctor before a visit. I'm too sure that we are lucky down here with the system in place.

No Place like home: If you eventually leave your country in search of greener pastures, would you be willing to come back because of your response in (3).

image.png

Sincerely, I will say yes so far I was able to get things in place sooner than I expect. Nigeria is a place to invest given to the Indigenous platform, the market that hosts over a 200million people as well as the exchange rate which makes it easier for one to set aside more liquid capital for investment.

The life off shores may be conducive, all basic amenities all supplied as required but one may not be too flexible to multiply these funds for higher return not unlike what can be effective down here where the exchange rate speaks volume. Presently, we can see the exchange rate of Naira to Dollar exchanging in the parallel market at 1$ to N605.
