this time I want to share with you one of the projects that came to my workplace, which deals with the repair and painting of a car

en esta oportunidad quiero compartir con ustedes uno de los proyectos que llegaron a mi lugar de trabajo, el cual trata acerca de la reparación y pintura de un automóvil

Although in the first instance the client brought the vehicle because it had a blow to the rear, after being in the workshop he wanted to add some extra repairs to the project and of course our team did not reject the client's request

aunque en primera instancia el cliente trajo el vehículo porque tenía un golpe en la parte trasera, luego de estar en el taller quiso agregar algunas reparaciones extra al proyecto y por supuesto nuestro equipo de trabajo no rechazo la solicitud del cliente

our goal in this project is to repair the bump on the back and paint three additional parts to make the car look like new

nuestro objetivo en este proyecto es reparar la protuberancia en la parte posterior y pintar tres partes adicionales para que el auto se vea como nuevo

The deadline we had to complete the project was only three days when a project of this category usually takes approximately 5 days to complete, in short it is a challenge for our team but we are trained and we have enough experience to help us minimize the times in each of the processes

La fecha límite que tuvimos para completar el proyecto fue de solo tres días cuando un proyecto de esta categoría generalmente demora aproximadamente 5 días en completarse, en resumen, es un desafío para nuestro equipo, pero estamos capacitados y tenemos suficiente experiencia para ayudarnos a minimizar los tiempos en cada uno de los procesos

As I mentioned earlier, the bump is on the rear of the vehicle specifically on the tailgate

According to what the client told me, this blow occurred when opening and releasing the tailgate, since it was near a wooden table underneath. Contrary to what many people think, the metal these cars are made of is relatively soft

Según lo que me dijo el cliente, este golpe se produjo al abrir y soltar el portón trasero, ya que estaba cerca de una mesa de madera debajo. Al contrario de lo que mucha gente piensa, el metal del que están hechos estos autos es relativamente blando

I started to take apart the tailgate lid that way I can hit from inside and outside to give it the proper shape

To do this, it is necessary to remove the handle of the tailgate to make straightening much more comfortable

Now I started hitting from the inside out to try to level the surface easily

This does not completely solve the problem but it does help us because it is a great advance

Now to finish correcting the small blows that were still present in the piece, it was necessary to use the spotter, which is a machine that allows you to make a weld on the surface and then pull back and thus eliminate the blow

But before that it is necessary to have the metal bare so that it can weld. So what I did was take the emery to start removing the paint from the surface where I want to correct the bump

This process is quite important and takes around 5 minutes

Now we can clearly appreciate the depth of the blow in the tailgate because we have already removed all the paint that was in that area

Now is the time to use the observer to finish correcting the bump. because thanks to this machine it can be done easily since it focuses on one point

As we can see, first it is welded to the surface and then with the weight that it brings integrated into the pistol itself, it is pulled back with force and in this way the blow is removed

Thanks to this machine we can remove the blows from the pieces without the need to disassemble, it really is very useful in experienced hands

At this point, the blow was already corrected, although not in its entirety and of course, some small details remain, but that is what we will correct later with the help of putty

En este punto, el golpe ya estaba corregido, aunque no en su totalidad y por supuesto, quedan algunos pequeños detalles, pero eso es lo que corregiremos más adelante con la ayuda de masilla

Now with the help of the circular sander and an abrasive sandpaper sand the surface where the blow was to leave it rough in this way the putty can have adhesion

this process is something that takes me about 5 minutes but it is vitally important for the putty to be in the best possible way

Now we can clearly see the area where we are going to apply the putty to correct the details that are present

So without wasting time I quickly prepared the putty to apply it

First I applied a thin layer to level the surface a little and let it dry for about 10 minutes, then sand it with the help of abrasive sandpaper

And while it dries I was advancing with the three additional pieces that we are going to paint for this I began to sand mainly to eliminate the scratches that were present in them

then I was able to sand the putty when it was dry and apply the second coat to correct all the details of the piece

Now I just have to wait another 10 minutes for the putty to dry and be able to sand. After this if I will have the final result of the correction of the blow

It is important to note that each process has its working time and methods, very well when the putty was dry, I was able to sand it and this is the result

Now it is time to start covering with paper around the putty because it is time to apply the primer, this product helps to seal the surface of moisture and also when dry it can be sanded and serves as a base to apply the paint on the

and in the meantime I can continue advancing and sand the three additional pieces that we are going to paint

This takes me about 30 minutes and after that it is time to wash the entire car to remove all traces of dust and grease and then enter the paint booth and start covering with paper what we do not want to smear with paint

In this way we conclude a day of work so the next day the bottom must already be dry because more than 12 hours have passed, so now is the time to start sanding the bottom with the help of fine sandpaper

This process takes us around 20 minutes, this is how it looks when it is completely ready to apply the paint

So now is the time to start applying the paint for that you need to apply several layers of paint to completely cover the color, since it is a dark tone it is much easier when it comes to covering the surface

Of course, this process takes around 40 minutes to completely cover the car color, why it should be applied evenly to all the parts we want to paint, and for that reason, you need to apply a coat of paint and wait for it to dry to apply the following

and finally when the color of the car is completely covered it is time to apply a product called varnish, this product is what gives the shine to the paint

It is a liquid product that is applied with the help of a paint gun and an air compressor. This product has a drying time of 24 hours

With this we already finished the painting process, now this is what the car looks like

the next day the varnish was completely dry but we still decided to take the car out of the paint booth to expose it for several hours in sunlight

For that, it was necessary to remove some of the papers. And after several hours I was ready to wash it and assemble the part that we removed from the tailgate
