A Hairy Little Sales Dog | Digital Art | New Commission

Hello again my dear friends. Today I bring you a new commission, but this time for another customer, this one was made for Vodkitacoins.com a website selling coins for the Tibia MMORPG type game, an ideal adventure for the lovers of pixels and old games. So if you are a Tibia player and want to buy some coins, you know where to go.

I'm not really sure, but I think I can say that this is one of my best illustrations, although I can say for sure that it was the one that took me more time, I spent two weeks detailing a lot and I have to confess it, getting frustrated because some things didn't turn out as I wanted, but at the end I was very satisfied with the result, besides the client was very happy with the illustration.

So come with me and let me tell you about the long process behind this illustration.

Tools:

  • Wacom Intuos 4
  • Photoshop

-Step 1:

The main idea of the client was a Husky dog in armor together with some gold coins, so I made a first design where the dog was next to a waterfall of coins in a playful way, I made the sketch and added some quick color to present it to the client and see if it was what he wanted.

-Step 2:

It was not what he had in mind, here we clarify that the dog must be negotiating with the coins, his words were "I want Vodka to offer the coins, but not give them away, but offer them at a reasonable price", I also had to add an adventurer, this way there would be a customer with whom the dog would negotiate. Therefore I made a very quick sketch to form a clear idea, it is important to emphasize something, the position of the dog, I have located it in a high place, giving it an air of importance, respect and demonstrating that she has control of the situation.

-Step 3:

I continued working on the basis of the previous sketch, but taking it to a more aesthetic and comfortable point, since the position of the adventurer took me a long time, I could not fit it naturally into the scene, so I worked his torso in greater detail from the beginning. As you can notice there is a lot of text in the illustration, these are the elements I would add later, leaving the client to make the decisions.

-Step 4:

A week later, the work progressed a lot, I added all the agreed elements, achieving a quite striking scene, the little dog finally looked like a real Husky, the attitude of her face looked very good for a born businessdog, besides I finally built her armor and corrected her little tail. But there was something that was very wrong, the floor on which this dog has the same perspective as the ceiling, for this point it was almost impossible to modify the ceiling, it had been very well and I loved everything in it, so I decided to modify the floor, which until now was the most boring. With the transform tool, I stretched the corners, simulating the perspective of the ceiling, also I achieved a pretty brightness, which reflected the brightness of the coins. In a last consultation to the client, two minor and final changes appeared, the style of the shield and the tone of the armor, this was very easy to do, using the tool -gradient map- alter the colors without losing the design at all.

Tell me in the comments that you imagine when you see this illustration.

I'll leave you a little gif with the whole process in it, so you can better appreciate the step by step.

See you in a future post!
