Contentment doesn't mean you don't desire more, it means you're thankful for what you have and you're patient for what is to come.

The holy bible says

Godliness with contentment is great gain - 1 Tim. 6:6

A lot of folks today are short of the all important virtue of contentment. Many have taken one step to many in a bid to hastily and/or prematurely acquire and asset or individual (for the case of relationships).

A lack of contentment in today's world has led to numerous sad stories including divorce, sicknesses, losses, death, and depression. I'm fact, the effects of the lack of contentment can hardly be exaggerated.

WHY THE LACK OF CONTENTMENT?

Here are a few reasons why some people are just never contented especially when they've not got so much.

  • Ungratefulness: People tend to be ungrateful for what they receive. A number of times, they feel entitled even when they lack merit and as a result set high expectations. Of course, when the much available reaches them and reality checks, they become dissatisfied deeming what they've just received too little. This makes them discontent.

  • Imitation: This is common among a lot of people these days. They just can't live their life. They want to get something they saw someone with, they want to say something they heard someone say, they want to do something they saw someone do whether or not it's within their capacity. When it's not, discontentment begins to set in.

  • Unhealthy competition: Just like imitation, unhealthy competition is also common among a lot of people these days. Some persons just want to be the best at whatever they do. They detest settling for less. This might be applaudable even if spurs one to develop more and be better but when it brews only discontentment, it's counter productive.

THE PANACEA

Thankfully, the panacea for contentment is prepared with a simple recipe

Be thankful for what you have and patiently wait for what is to come.

You can't apply this panacea however if you're obsessed with unhealthy competition. You also would be off the mark if you're given to imitation. But you can imitate good things. You can follow a role model around who is showing a great level of contentment. This will greatly increase the potency of the panacea stated above.

Just stay contented and avoid a lot of troubles for yourself. If you want to harbour dissatisfaction, use it to further develop yourself to be more useful both to yourself and to the people around you.
