Bitcoin has been a laggard of late, but it's still besting stocks year to date

Many new bitcoin investors have started to question whether they made the right decisions investing in bitcoin these last several months...

This has been due to the fact that bitcoin hasn't really moved much while stocks, gold, and specifically silver have continued to march higher week after week.

However, did you know that bitcoin is still besting stocks year to date, and it's not even close?

Keep in mind that the Nasdaq is the best performing index and compared to bitcoin, it's still really not even close when talking year to date returns.

• Bitcoin is up 34%
• Nasdaq is up 23%
• S&P500 is up 1%

It's all about perspective...

So, yes stocks have under-performed bitcoin when talking year to date...

However, the picture changes quite a bit when strictly talking about the early year Coronavirus Pandemic induced crash.

Since that time, stocks are far and away the leader.

Since the crash really began on February 20th, stocks are besting bitcoin in a major way...

• Bitcoin is basically flat
• Nasdaq is up roughly 12%
• Gold is up roughly 15%

So, from that perspective you can see why investors are becoming a little concerned with the recent price action of bitcoin compared with other "risk assets".

However, bitcoin dropped more than those assets and it also recovered more than they did in percentage terms during that massive drop in late February.

Which may mean bitcoin is still just consolidating those gains before ultimately moving higher as well.

In fact, the most recent price action where bitcoin has gained several percent in the last 24 hours may be the beginning of just that.
