Hello Community,
This is my version of the winged Explorer. The reference drawing is by @cjsean . I saw it posted as a DTIYS Challenge today. Lately I have been into monochrome and the night and that is the mood of my drawing.
Let me show you how I made it
Instead of using binoculars I used a paddle for my version. My explorer is simply padding a boat at night. Enjoying the moonlight and the peaceful night.
I almost forgot about the wings, I added them towards the end. I love it when the line drawing gives me the idea or a preview of what to expect and in this case a beautiful and interesting character. I didn't plan to but I just added a long curly hair while finalising the line drawing. It was a good decision because I like it.
This shade of blue is my starting point for the base color. Then I will change its value depending on the effect that I am working on. Be it a shadow or reflected light from the moon. For me that simplifies the process of choosing the color/s
The background color is just three shades darker of the base color. I had to put it in early so I can adjust the colors for the shadows and highlights.
The final and finishing touch is the bright moon. Without it this could be a dark and dull composition. I was too cautious about the intensity of the light that is reflected on the character at first. I realised though, that the more intense the more believable it could get.
Thank you for stopping by
