I made this post on September 27 2019. It was a Friday evening and I was on my way to my first Steem meetup ever! It was held in my old home town Tampere.
My daughter and I arrived at my parents' house a few hours ago. We stopped in Hämeenlinna along the way. I took these photos of the castle from the eastern shore of the lake. Lake Vanajavesi extends about 10 km from its main body to the south as a narrow, river-like inlet. The castle was built at the intersection of the inlet and a chain of eskers that provided a good foundation to build a road leading from Turku to Viipuri a very long time ago.

This is the castle. The construction of its oldest parts began in the beginning of the 14th century.
