Good ol' Games - Reviewing Graveyard Keeper!

I snagged Graveyard Keeper a few months ago on a sale on impulse purely based on name and the idea that I'd be managing a graveyard. I suspected this would be something like Sim-City, but I was pleasantly surprised when I launched it to find that it's actually much more like Stardew Valley. One thing I found right away that I really liked was that, unlike Stardew Valley, this game doesn't have any timeframe that you need to feel pressured to achieve X event by Y time.

Another bonus in my opinion is the humor and the macabre themes of the game. A talking skull that you dig up (which was maybe the last graveyard keeper or something?) gives you advice, and bodies of dead people are randomly dropped off by a talking donkey.

Initially, there is a pretty decent learning curve and it took me a while to figure out how to actually play the game and advance - I definitely spent some time checking Wiki's and just trying random junk out.

A major part of the game is dealing with corpses and doing some tasks to make them more suitable for burial in my graveyard. Part of that is removing skin, fat, meat, and other stuff.

And, in this particular world, they're not too picky about what you DO with the things you take out. If you're a little shady and you don't mind the grossness of it, feel free to take that corpse meat and make a delicious burger out of it!

Eventually, with the right stamp, you can even sell your cough totally organic home-grown meat cough to the townsfolk nearby.

You can also do a bit of dungeon diving, and interact with a wide variety of NPCs. I haven't gone far into the dungeon yet, but I'll maybe make a subsequent post later as I get further into that part of the game.

Overall, this was one of the best spur-of-the-moment purchases I've made in a long time. It's been an absolute blast to play. So, if you like this style of game and you missed picking it up when it released - consider grabbing yourself a copy! It's got a lot of charm and is a wonderful way to spend some of this quarantine time!
