Prawn Cocktail
Prawn Cocktails are one of those things which I seldom make, but when I do, I thoroughly enjoy it. We have one every Christmas day and a handful of other days and every time we make it, we both metaphorically lick our lips and wonder why we don't make it more often.
On a recent trip to Lanzarote, we stopped into the bar after playing 18 holes of golf. One of the guys asked for some crisps or nuts with the drinks. The elderly barman smiled and said:
"I have something even better..."
He smiled and disappeared for a short while and reappeared with freshly caught Jumbo prawns with their heads and tails still intact, along with some secret sauce. He gave a quick show and tell on topping and tailing the Prawns, in case we weren't well versed in the technique.
Let me tell you, they were exquisite and although I wouldn't typically have them with pints, they hit the spot for five hungry and thirsty Irish golfers fresh in from the fairways. So Prawn Cocktails were in my subconscious when I got home to Ireland on Sunday and when I found myself at the Supermarket on Monday, the prawns lept into the trolley themselves with big smiley heads!
Here is my very simple recipe for a delicious Prawn Cocktail.
Ingredients
Prawns
Iceberg Lettuce
Martini glasses
Ketchup
Mayonnaise
Step 1
Take your tomato Ketchup and mayonnaise ad mix them together until your happy with the colour of the secret sauce.
Step 2
Get two large glasses, Martini glasses work well and add a dollop of sauce from step 1.
Step 3
Chop up some of your iceberg lettuce. Now add some of your lettuce leaves to the mix.
Step 4
Time to add some prawns. I like to cut a few up and add them in and mix in some whole ones too.
Step 5
Add more sauce and lettuce. Things are starting to take shape now.
Step 6
Now top up with more prawns and top off with some more sauce.
Step 7
The final step is to sprinkle on some paprika and your ready to go.
Bon Appetite
