This is my first cooking experience for this community, I hope you will all love my Ambarella chutney π
Ambarella which is scientifically called as Spondias dulcis. It is a tropical fruit- bearing tree. Ambarella has so many benefits and advantages for human health such as enriching skin texture, helps to control heart attacks, enhance immune system functions etc. Ambarella is enriched with proteins, healthy fats, natural sugar as well as vitamin C and vitamin A.
The ambarella usually found in hot climates specially in warmer parts of Asia and Africa. Therefore, even in Sri Lanka, we can see the Ambarella crop. There is an Ambarella tree in my home garden. So, I use the fresh ambarella fruits which has been grown in my garden.
Now, Iβll show how to make Ambarella chutney step by step.
These are the ingredients we need
- Fresh Ambarella
- Onion
- Pandan leaf
- Curry leaves
- Garlic cloves
- Cinnamon
- Ginger
- Sugar
- Salt
- Turmeric powder
- Curry powder
- Pepper powder
- Chili powder
Step 1: Peel the Amberralla rind off
Step 2: Cut each Ambarella fruit into two pieces
Step 3: Wash them well
Step 4: Keep the cooking container on a gas cooker and pour some oil into it
Step 5 Add onion, garlic, curry leaves, pandan leaves, cinnamon, ginger into it and mix it well.
Step 6: When you see the mixture getting golden amber add chili powder,
- Then the curry powder
- and sugar into it and mix it well
Step 7: Add some water and mix it again
Step 8: Add ambarella pieces into that
Step 9: Then add salt,
- Then turmeric powder
- and pepper powder and mix it well
Step 10: Let it cook with low medium heat until the ambarella chutney simmer over.
My chutney is ready to serve!

This is one my favorite.. My mother use clay pot to cook Ambarella Chutney and fusion of taste in it is absolutely amazing..
