Buttermilk chapati (flat breads)

Hey Everyone,
My name is Hellen. I am a 40 year old real estate agent and I come from Kenya.
I loved cooking but simce the lock down due to covid, I have discovered that I can actually really cook. I have tried very many different recipies and they all came out delicious. I am thinking of openinh a restaurant soon!

Today for dinner, I made chapati. My most favourite food. When I was younger, chapati was a delicacy and we would ear it only on special occasions eg Christmas, Easter or when special visitors were expected I guess this is why its remained a favourite because it brings back so many childhood memories . Times have changed!
Typically, most people will use water instead of butter milk to knead the dough but I prefer buttermilk since it gives it a very delicious unique taste.
So for the dough you need:
2 cups All purpose flour
Salt and sugar to taste
1 cup butter milk (or water)
1 table spoon veg oil

Kneed that into a smooth dough and set aside to rest for about 30 mins.

Next you will divide the dough into small equal sizes and roll out to apply some oil. My preferred type is Ghee because it makes them extra delicious.

Next step is to roll them out in roughly round shapes.. Some people can do it perfecrly round. Then cook them on a hot cast iron pan. Make sure to use to apply the ghee or preffered oil on both sides.

And there you have it.

You can enjoy this with vegetables, meat, chicken dishes.
Hope you ll make it for you and your family!
