The Food We Ate Affects Mental and Physical Health
It is no secret that a healthy and balanced diet has a significant impact on our health. It keeps us fit, strengthens the immune system and declares war on diseases. However, if obesity or deficiency symptoms occur, these can not only affect our performance. Metabolic problems are also a consequence that many segments of the population struggles with. Diet has a major impact on our mental and physical health that is often underestimated.
In general, it is better to be safe than sorry. Prevention is always better than treating an illness that has already occurred. In the context of health problems, which are becoming increasingly important today, it is extremely important to understand the relationships between diet and a person's physical or mental health .
Lots of people want to eat healthily. The idea is there, but most of the time it fails because of the implementation. Similar to New Year's resolutions, we take on something, but it's just too difficult to get over our weaker self. There is no shortage of offers or role models. But do more sport or cook more healthily? For many people, this involves too much effort. But is it really that difficult to eat healthily? Once you know which foods to look out for to do something good for your health, healthy eating will be easy for you.
Nutrition can be a real cornucopia of health. Not only can suffering be alleviated with it, but it also helps to avoid them in advance. However, improper nutrition can also cause a number of problems in the first place, for example through the use of various ingredients in industrially manufactured dishes, which are responsible for a large number of allergy sufferers .
Consequences of Poor Nutrition
Most people underestimate the impact of our eating habits on our physical and mental fitness. Of course, eating a piece of chocolate, drinking a glass of lemonade and indulging in a small piece of cake is not a problem.
The following are the struggles for having an unhealthy diet:
- Sweating faster
- Restricted musculoskeletal system
- Diabetes
- Pain in the joints
- Depressions
- High blood pressure
- Obesity
- Sleep disorders
- Heart problems
- Inner unrest
- Slackness
- Dejection
However, it does not mean that everyone who is slim has a healthy diet. Just as a change in diet does not have the same effect on everyone.
The amount of food is also important if you want to have a positive influence on your mental and physical health with your diet.
- Not too much sugar. Compared to the daily energy consumption, the amount should not exceed the ten percent limit.
- Healthy fats. A maximum of 30 percent of energy expenditure should consist of fats. Vegetable fats from various oils and nuts are best.
- Warning, salt. Many people underestimate the importance of salt. You shouldn't even consume five grams (iodized) a day.
On the other hand, those who pay attention to a balanced diet can already prevent many diseases and protect both their physical and mental health.
Healthy diet promotes your physical and mental health
You must have had a really bad cold before. They felt tired, drained and really just wanted to sleep all day. In addition, there are headaches and aches and pains that affect you physically. So that it doesn't get that far in the first place, a balanced diet is the solution. This is how you push your immune system and your body. These foods will help you keep your body fit:
- Citrus fruits are especially good for getting through the winter as they contain a lot of vitamins.
- Sweet potatoes and quinoa will help you build muscle.
- Kiwis promote cell growth.
- Nuts are good for the skin.
- Natural yogurt regulates your intestinal flora.
Eating a healthy diet brings many benefits to your physical and mental health.
Improve your physical health with diet
Sport is good for you. Just as we know that a balanced diet is good for both our physical and mental health. We are fitter, more productive and feel good when we eat healthily.
Five servings of fruits and vegetables every day is a recommendation by experts.
Breakfast : oatmeal with fruit
Lunch : salmon with salad
Dinner : vegetable soup
Snack : apple
In this way we can get the recommended amount of healthy food in no time, without having to make a lot of effort.
Nutritional for the psyche
We don't yet know exactly how diet promotes mental health. There is still too little data for this. Nutritionists say, however, that a healthy eating behavior can significantly improve the course of mental illness . A balanced lifestyle leads to significantly fewer impairments to mental health than would be the case the other way around.
What do fruits and vegetables do to our minds?
Nowadays we are exposed to more and more psychological stress. There is pressure at work, in private life or from family - and of course we try to manage everything on our own. However, this is not always possible. Because of this, it is important that we reduce our stress levels. Your diet will help you take care of your mental health even during stressful times.
These foods will help you reduce stress :
- Cucumbers
- Berries
- Citrus fruits
- Herbs
- Garlic
- Nuts
None of these foods need to be imported from the other end of the world or are entirely unfamiliar to you. They help you to prevent sleep disturbances, to balance inner restlessness and to stimulate the release of serotonin in the brain .
A diet high in fruits and vegetables is good for both your physical and mental health. And it's also delicious. But there are also foods that it is better to avoid. This includes fast food, among other things. The fatty food may make you feel happy at first, but it is just as quickly broken down and you are hungry again. That frustrates and has a negative impact on your psyche.
Almost every food comes in healthy and unhealthy variants: Whole grain bread, for example, baked only with natural ingredients, is a delicious source of nutrients. The same bread, on the other hand, can mutate into sickness and fattening food through the use of industrial additives.
The problem with modern foods is this, most of them have been produced on a large scale. Only in the rarest cases does this take place without natural additives, mostly artificial additives are added. For patients who are generally prone to allergic reactions to food, it can therefore only mean to avoid industrial food as much as possible and instead use organic or at least traceably manufactured products.
Organic is not problem-free either, but at least it prevents artificial ingredients from entering the body. The most important step in such therapy is an elimination diet. All foods with artificial ingredients are gradually reduced. If there is a significant improvement in symptoms after omitting a particular food, then you are on the right track.
Be careful with sugary foods
Children often drink drinks that are far too sugary. Above all, this damages your teeth and also causes weight problems. Since the widespread use of industrial sugar in ready meals, the number of children with tooth decay has risen dramatically.
The dentition is the mirror of human health. If problems arise here, this is often enough an indication of deeper difficulties. And the biggest problem with this is that babies are already being supplied with food and drinks that damage their milk teeth. The biggest problem here is above all sugar. If the less resistant milk teeth are constantly washed around by sugary drinks, milk carries forms very quickly. Not least because babies often drink less because they are thirsty, they should switch to completely unsweetened drinks. This also has another positive side effect: the body does not get used to sugar and there is less need for it in later years.
Even later, sugar is still a ubiquitous problem. Especially in view of the fact that sugar is also hidden where you would not expect it to be. Even the supposedly healthy apple spritzer contains at least 24 grams of sugar per bottle.
A healthy diet does not mean doing without. It just depends on where the ingredients come from and how they are prepared. Even an organic salad can become unhealthy through the use of industrial spices.
We are what we eat
This much sought-after saying is still very true even after many years of use. Today we live in a time in which it is becoming more and more difficult to avoid industrial products and to eat really healthy food instead. However, this has not only to do with the food industry, but also with the simple fact that really healthy, organic high-quality food is often only available at a disproportionately higher price. However, if you consider how easy it is to get a grip on many problems simply by switching from cooking to natural salt, it quickly becomes clear that health always requires a little personal effort and does not always have to be more expensive or time-consuming.
