Hello lovely steemians
Glad to be part of another great contest by @steemfoods community and our amicable @alikoc07. Special thanks to @ngoenyi for organizing this beautiful contest this week, and giving us the opportunity to showcase our favorite traditional dessert.
My favorite traditional dessert is Chin-chin. Chin-chin is an old long dessert, that originated in West Africa, also known as 'Africa croquettes'is mostly prepared for special occasions like weddings, birthdays and parties.
Chin-chin is a crunchy delicious dessert, it is highly nutritious with great proportion of carbohydrates, fats, fibre and proteins that is necessary for the body's growth and development, helps in fluid balance of the body too.
Chin-chin is my favorite because i love the taste of the snack, it's easy to prepare and it has been my childhood snack, as my mother made Chin-chin always and sells them,so its a part of me😊.
INGREDIENTS
▪︎ 450g Flour
▪︎1/4 cup Sugar
▪︎1/4cup margarine/butter
▪︎A pinch of Salt
▪︎1/4 teaspoon Baking Powder
▪︎2 medium eggs
▪︎1 sachet powdered Milk
▪︎1 litre vegetable oil
▪︎1/2 tsp nutmeg
▪︎1 cup water
PROCEDURE
Seive the flour and sugar in a dry deep bowl
Add a pinch of salt, nutmeg and baking powder, mix properly so all ingredients combines well.
Now, add the margarine into the dry mixture and mix properly by rubbing
Now you whisk your eggs in a bowl, and mix the milk with 1cup of water
Add the whisked egg and milk into the dry mixture gradually untill the mixture binds together.
Now knead properly so all ingredients will circulate, till the dough is ready.
Sprinkle some flour on a smooth surface and place the dough and knead properly
Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough to a thin layer
Use a knife to partition the flatten dough into small lines, and put on a tray already sprinkled with flour( to prevent the chin-chin from sticking to the tray)
Then use a kitchen scissors to cut the small lines into medium sized square, and spread on the tray.
Add the vegetable oil into a pot( we deep fry the Chin-chin) and allow to get hot, add half an onion bulb allow to boil for 1min and remove(it gives the oil a nice smell)
Now add the cut Chin-chin into the oil gradually and fry on medium heat so it doesn't get burnt.
Stir together continously untill the Chin-chin turns golden-brown
Now you remove the Chin-chin put in a strainer.
Waaalaaa...our Chin-chin is ready
Chin-chin can be eaten alone or with a drink, at any time of the day. Chin-chin can be preserved for weeks by storing it in an airtight container.
Hope you love my favourite traditional dessert. I invite you all to try this recipe out and have a taste of this African dessert.
Thank you for reading through and speacial regards to @steemitfoods community.
