Why is this meal special? you may ask, its because you dont need fire or oil to prepare it.
This meal is called Soaked Cassava Flakes (mostly called Garri in Nigeria).
Cassava flakes or granulated cassava as the name implies is gotten from washed and peeled cassava tubers mash.
As mash, they can be mixed with palm oil and place in a bag filled with tiny pores to allow water pass through and then after placed in a press machine (adjustable machine) for 4-6hours (sometimes days) to remove excess water.
After the mash is dried, it is then sieved into a large clay frying pot and fried with or without palm oil.
The resulting dry granulated cassava (garri) can be pounded or ground to make a fine flour.
So it is this fine flour that I will be using to prepare a meal today.
The Ingredients;
- Garri
Salt and Sugar
Water
- Palm Kernel
P. S This meal can be taken with milk, groundnut, Beans etc.
But I prepared it while I was in the farm and I made use of the available resources (Palm Kernel).
Procedure;
- Step 1: You crack your palm Kernel into a plate
- Step 2: you pour your cassava flake
- Step 3: You add water and stir
- Step 4: You add your salt and sugar
- Step 5: Add more water and stir for a proper mixture
After this five steps, your meal is ready, no fire no oil and less than 5 minutes.
