What a tasty treat from the woods!
We are past season at the moment, but I had these photos and had not shared them yet. Morel mushrooms are a highly sought after wild edible and sometimes they can even fetch a price of $40 USD per pound or more. Thankfully, my son is rather skilled at finding them, so we were able to enjoy some of the dark ones and some of the lighter ones this spring.
We slice them in half first, making sure that they are true morels. True morels are hollow in the center, and are edible, but false morels are poisonous. Then, after slicing them, we soak them in salt water overnight before sautéing them in butter and enjoying them. If you've never tried them, they are a real treat. Enjoy the photos!
