INTRODUCTION
Hello guys,
I am so delighted to be a partaker of this amazing contest which was organised by the @steemitfoods community and sponsored by @gbenga.
Today, I want to participate in this contest by preparing my native food. The name is Abacha or commonly known as Africa Salad. On my first visit to my uncle in Ezzagu in Enugu state Nigeria, I was welcomed with a plate of Abacha. When I asked why Abacha he said it is the riches food loved by all. Without much time wasted, let's dive into how to make Abacha.
Ingredients
- 2 handfuls of Abacha
- 1 cups ugba (ukpaka)
- A cup of red palm oil
- Dry fish
- 2 onions
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 3 cubes of Maggi
- utazi
- crayfish
Below is a picture of all the ingredients used before and after washing.

Here is also a picture of all my ingredients after washing and cutting.
Preparation of Abacha
After I have arranged everything I needed, I put a cup of water on fire these are dependant on the size of my Abacha. It's not compulsory to use hot water, you can use cold water too.
Step 1
Soak the Abacha for 2 minutes in the water and put it in a sieve to drain.
Step 2
Put your palm oil in the pot and allow it to fry for at least 30 seconds.
When that is done, you add little onions
to the pot and allow it for another 20 seconds then add your pepper
still give it another 20 seconds then add a cube of Maggie
Then allow it for another 30 seconds This is to enable all the ingredients to cook in the same proportion then add, you Abacha
and your ugba
and stir it very well until everything is well mixed. Then add your fish
to it immediately and stir it too. After about a minute, you add your utazi
and taste it to be sure that everything is in the required proportion then you bring it down. That is all. It should look like this
Below is a served Abacha, homely made by me @simonnwigwe.
Conclusion
There are many ways to make Abacha but these are my favourite way. So for as many who might have not seen or know how to prepare it before, I believe these simple guide should lead you through the process.
