Today, I want to share a unique plant I have planted and what I have benefitted from using it. As a chef, it is expedient that we garnish our meals with healthy and nutritious leafs/ spices.
Scent leaf as commonly known is botanically called Ocimum Gratissimum has a large range of health benefit and it is widely used especially in Nigeria as a spice when preparing pepper-soup, white-soup, rice, etc.
The health benefit of scent leaves include:
It helps in food digestion and weight management
Helps in the evacuation of bowels
Very helpful in the treatment of bad breath, mouth or tooth infections
Improves the function of the heart.
N/B: It is worthy of mention that the juice gotten from scent leave could be used to treat children suffering from worm infection or constant stomach-ache.
As a chef, I have used this leaf when preparing yam or plantain porridge and when preparing my pepper-soup rice because of the strong and appealing scent/fragrance it produces.
