Greetings to you all the amazing members of Steemithobby Community. It is my pleasure to be in this great community and I am also very excited to take part in this contest organized by @steemithobby which is titled; "Tell us About Your Meal". I love cooking, it has been part of me from my young age, most times I can't keep my eyes off new recipes without trying them out. Having this strong passion for cooking has made me never to waste a day without trying something new in the kitchen. For the purpose of this contest, I'm going to share my meal which is "Jollof Rice" and how I prepared it.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FOOD

Jollof rice is rich and awfully tasty West African one-pot meal. This dish is usually made from rice, tomato paste, onions, pepper, salt and other spices. Jollof rice is easy to make but yet delicious.

Here are the ingredients I used in preparing my jollof rice;

  • Vegetable oil
  • Pepper
  • Tomato paste
  • Onions
  • Maggi
  • Salt
  • Crayfish
  • Curry powder
  • Thyme

The steps I took in the preparation process;

Step 1

The first step was to parboil my rice, wash and filter the water out.

Step 2

Heated my oil on medium-high heat, when the oil was hot, I added tomato paste and onions and fry it for 3 minutes. I stir it consistently so that the tomato that is being mixed won't get burn.

Step 3

After that, I added my seasoning; salt, maggi, curry paste, thyme, crayfish and pepper.

Step 4

I added the parboiled rice to the pot, mixed well with the tomato stew then add water to it depending on the quantity of the rice.

Step 5

I waited for some minutes till the liquid dried up and my jollof rice is ready to be eaten. The rice is served with egg.

In conclusion, jollof rice is a delightful meal which has health benefits, they include; boosting of energy, because it contains carbohydrates, since rice also contains serotonin that is an important brain chemical which helps to raise good mood and keep one free from being depressed.
