A "centralized application" is one that can be managed from the main unit, whereas a "decentralized application" is one that isn't managed from the main unit but is an open-source program that allows other users to view other users' transactions. In this post, I'll compare and contrast two different applications that fall under the social media area for this post: Steemit and Facebook.

You can see from the table above that while Facebook is a centralized application, Steemit is a decentralized one. Let's now examine their benefits and drawbacks.

Steemit Advantages

Steemit, a decentralized platform, can process billions more transactions than Facebook, and it is transparent enough for every user to watch or read another user's transactions at any moment. Additionally, there is no such thing as a third party handling your data, so you may do whatever you want with it. Because every transaction is completed in under a second, the speed is extremely high. Finally, due to the various keys that are provided, Steemit cannot be readily hacked because it is a decentralized application.

Steemit disadvantage

Because Steemit cannot be regulated by the government, it is not commonly utilized by people. Additionally, it allows other users to view your wallet, which may inspire envy.

Facebook's benefits

Because Facebook is governed and monitored by both a controlled unit and the government, users can utilize it without worrying about whether or not their data will be compromised. Additionally, Facebook constantly introduces new features that aid in the promotion of goods and services by advertisers. Facebook's interface is straightforward.

Disadvantages of Facebook

Facebook's centralized nature makes it vulnerable to hacking, and once a user account has been compromised, anything may be altered. Unlike in a decentralized application, where distinct keys each have a specific function. Additionally, users' information is not secure because of a third party using the system. Personal information about a user may be sold to hackers or ad agencies. Another significant drawback of Facebook is the ease with which a user account can be abruptly and silently blocked from the controlled unit.

Conclusion:

In the ensuing five years, Steemit will be the dominant force. The globe is embracing decentralized applications because more businesses are starting to use them.
