If you have a solid understanding of your audience, your content marketing efforts will be more successful. And if you've never done this type of research, personas can be a great way to start.

This is one of the most main content marketing tips. While your competitors can be great sources of topic ideas, you should avoid publishing content that is similar to someone else's. After all, the goal of content marketing is to provide useful information to your customers—not information that's readily available.
Whenever you come up with a great idea, resist the temptation to copy it with a few minor changes. Instead, look at the topic as a starting point, and look for ways you can bring your own unique angle. This will prevent you from becoming part of an "echo chamber" of online content and will be much more interesting to your readers.

As you choose the topics you want to write about, you may find yourself coming up with broad, general topics. But unless you're willing to invest the time to create comprehensive long-form content, you should narrow each topic down to the extent that you can cover it in its entirety.
In addition to making content creation more manageable, it will also help you create more effective topics. It's better to have 10 pages that comprehensively answer a specific question than one page that answers 10 questions in minimal detail—especially if each question is on a different topic.
