Scams You Know

Scams, otherwise known as Fraud or 419 in Nigeria, is a tricky or deceptive method people engage in to cheat people of their valuables e.g. Money, personal information etc.

The people who engage in such dubious activities are called scammers and are usually very cunning, manipulative and full of deceit, making a lie look so real and so honest.

Scams can come in various forms, ranging from online, to phone calls, to messages, etc.
Let me elaborate a bit;
The most common one today is the online shopping scam. One may indicate interest in an online service or product, proceed through the payment processes only to be scammed and not receive the exact thing (What I ordered vs What I got) or even nothing at all. These ordeals can be so heartbreaking, especially if one is a victim.

Another one is called the Phishing scams. This happens when a scammer poses as staff of legitimate organizations, e.g. banks, oil companies, especially through phone calls trying to get personal information from you, e.g. ATM pins, OTPs, two-way verification codes etc. to clone one's phone to hack into their social media accounts as well as steal from their bank accounts.

It could also be a fake job scam where they deceive people with the intent of giving them jobs and eventually ask for upfront payments or even bank statements for deposits.

Romance scams: People create social media profiles and trick naive individuals into believing they are an item. Then boom some of them start asking for financial aid and some even invite their victims for dates only to be raped or even killed and used for some sort of rituals (In Nigeria this is known as "Yahoo Plus")

People even go as far as being diabolical, using it on people, even in public transport systems, hypnotizing them to submit their money to both the ones they have and the ones kept at their homes

One really needs to be careful and be on the lookout because being aware of these scams is a key to protecting yourself. Also, be sure to verify the legitimacy of any request for money or personal information, and be mindful of communication with people you don't know.
