"Should unreliable dreams be discouraged?"

Dreams are ideas, aspirations or goals which a person has and is projected for the future. Dreams usually begin from the mind as imaginations and are backed up with purposeful and intentional actions. Without dreams, a person would just exist and would not be able to leave marks on the sand of time.

Everyone has the ability and capacity to dream. But as much as dreams can be a source of inspiration, some dreams can literally be unreliable, leading to frustrations, wasted time and even depression if not discerningly followed.

Also, while some unreliable dreams are mere fantasies, some can still serve as a source of inspiration, especially when one turns them into reliable goals and works towards them step by step.

Moreover, instead of outrightly discouraging some dreams, rather a person could constructively discourage them and possibly help such people reframe their ambitions into achievable steps, making even big dreams more realistic.

I know of a story of a girl who wanted to be an actress and her family and friends cheered her on massively, but then every one of her auditions was met with failures. As days turned into months and years, her dream became unrealistic as she was stucked in the cycle of hope and disappointment. One day she had a conversation with her mum regarding that part of her life. She realized that her dream was based on people's validation rather than genuine love for acting.

The questions her mum asked her helped her to refocus and restrategize her dreams, and then she got answers. She loved story telling. With this realization, she began to write scripts using her experience and struggles as an inspiration.

I want us to also imagine some famous inventors and possibly how they sounded and looked when they told people about their dreams. For instance, Thomas Edison and the number of times his dreams were proved unreliable. So many groundbreaking ideas and inventions take root from dreams that seemed unlikely or illogical at first.

Go for your dreams as far as they are not life-threatening or causing other people pain and also have an open heart about their outcomes.
