Would I choose to upload my memories to the internet to gain immortality? Ha Ha.
I would upload them just so I don't forget them.
It is not reasonable to assume that uploading anything will give it eternal existence since the entire universe is temporary.
But on a more visible scale.... "Who built the Pyramids and why, anyway?
Maybe they thought the bodies entombed and mummified would last for eternity. But archaeologists dig them up thousands of years later and puzzle over what the story is behind them.
What we consider material is really not material. Everything is energy. Everything is in constant motion. Molecules, electron, neutron, protons and even more subtle energy forms not yet detected by mechanical means.
So if everything is fluid, everything moving, everything is energy.... where is the science to establish eternal anything in such a fluid environment?
Everything has a beginning, a middle and an end. We long for permanence, because there is an environment that is permanent. It is also energy but a different type of energy. Spiritual energy. No beginning, no end...
But to connect with that via the internet is really very childish. It's in the category of building a staircase to heavenly planets.
Or even the silly attempts recently to go to the moon. Ha Ha In a metal "thing". We can't even go to another country without all sorts of paper work and qualifications to enter. But the scientists want to go to the moon in metal "thing"? And now upload memories to gain immortality. O, My! How silly these things are.
At the rate things are going, the future does not really look very good. The planet is wasted. Everything is contaminated. Which means food and water shortages are coming. Increased diseases. Shortened life spans. Wars which destroy everything. All in the name of advancement of science. So in not too many decades human life may not be all that recognizable as human. Internet? What's that? Vegetables what are those? Tree? What's that? Just kill and eat whatever.
So put your memories on disc or upload to the internet but for whom? Maybe the aliens will come from outer space and find a disc or a USB stick and try to decode it. Like the hieroglyphs on the walls of the pyramids.
But... I would upload my memories at least so that I can remember them as I am getting older and remembering anything is becoming more and more of a challenge. Like where's my glasses?
