After writing my last update, I was feeling pretty despondent. I was struggling to get my head around what I needed to do and I was feeling extremely frustrated and somewhat burnt out. I couldn't think. I could see problems and I didn't think that things were working...
Having hit the "Post" button (feeling somewhat fed up with how things were going), I had a short break and told myself "You can do this!"
The challenge that I was overcoming was thinking of a way of making certain elements of my code reusable. Thus making it easier to maintain and easier to code future parts of the game and fortunately, I was able to find a solution soon after.
This gave me a renewed burst of enthusiasm which I have capitalised on over the last few days.
I'm pleased with how the fights have gone and have tweaked how they operate to make them easier to follow. Whether this proves popular or not, please let me know.
I also encountered the first game where a player was nearing death... so I decided to code what happens when a player dies. This needed 3 things to happen:
- Kill the player and tell them they're dead
- Tell my code to stop looking at that game
- Update the Post title so that the little icons change to ☠️
(3) was my priority 😁
Having coded this fairly successfully, I made a little mistake and the poor dead player in question continued their journey for another step, knowing that they were no longer themselves - zombified if you will.
So I fixed the code and they're dead now. So players can die 🥳
As I said, I capitalised upon my enthusiasm and coded a load more scenarios for players on the 3rd floor.
Since I'm still very much in "Alpha Testing" (although it could considered a strange form of "Test-Driven Development"), I'm concentrating on writing the scenarios for the points in the game that players reach that I haven't written yet. Which means that for the time being, the code will be run manually and maybe this adds to the drama and tension of the game 🤷♂️
Alongside writing these scenarios (which are generally very straightforward now), I'm planning to write something so that players who take too long to make their move, slowly die. They're supposed to be hungry after all so they'll now slowly starve to death through their own inaction. I'm quite looking forward to adding this 🙂
Join The Fun
For those that are reading my updates, I invite you to come and join the testing by reading and replying to this post. Bring the most patient part of your personality because things will continue to go wrong but hopefully the biggest hurdles have been overcome.
This will not happen to me! After all, I found a pan and killed a zombie with it! I will find some potatoes in the next apartment and everything will be fine... ;-)
Okay... I'm ready to write you some "girly texts" - then not so many die, zombie hunters make out, there are lots of sheep and sometimes (when someone dies) cloud sheep. Fakes and scammers immediately fall from the 47th floor, suck-ups stick to the elevator door. Quite simply, quite lovingly... 😁

The frying pan might come in handy if you fine an apartment that has something that needs cooking. You'll need to find a portable gas stove or something though because I think the power in your apartment block is still out 😉
I haven't done the bit where you can join somebody else's game yet 🤣
You might encounter a steemcurator at some point in your journey I hope that you do - I'm made them quite an interesting character 🤣
In fact, I'm excited about you meeting any of the characters I've created. There are 3 in total scattered about. Each with their own unique personality 😁

Very funny! Maybe on the second floor? I hope he has a very special weapon then :-D

Their location is random and I think you’ll find them fun to be around 😆 I don’t think my creation is reflective of their true personality but it should be funny nonetheless!
Now that I’m talking about it, I could make the other one a curator too 🤔 Yes, I’ll do that. It’ll add some extra comedy to their character.

I've taken a quick look at the data for your game and sadly you missed the opportunity of meeting the curator who was waiting for you in apartment 19. I won't tell you what was in the other apartments through fear of influencing your decisions on the other floors 🙂
If I change another character to also be a curator, they could prove to be a valuable ally if / when you find them

Damn!
Yes, don't tell too much otherwise the whole tension is lost :-) But it's very interesting to read what you've built in. I was also totally surprised that two of the guys attacked me at once... But with my axe, that was their last evil deed! ;-) I'm just afraid they weren't the last...
yesss, I'll go and look for him right away ;-)

Hopefully I’ve included enough variety 😊
Your fight couldn’t have gone much better - in my code tests, you got quite badly hurt 🤕

I will wait curiously - but patiently, I promise - for the realization of your ideas. If you yourself are already so excited about it, it can only become great!

I waited very patiently for the development to be completed. But since you invite to start now, then I am in favor.

👍🏼 Hopefully everything works for you! I’m away tomorrow (Saturday) so will run the code for you on Sunday and get your adventure up and running 😊

You should definitely do it. It's fun ... and can be quite funny when you follow each other ... and - if the developer wants it - maybe meet up :-)

I got a fright there for a moment!
Why did I leave the third floor? :-((
Oh, I just hope there will be a few surprises on the 2nd floor as well... I am even convinced...

😊 There are surprises everywhere and not all good or bad. I’m excited about some of them - I just hope that my brain allows me to get them coded well!
