HELLO EVERYONE

Good day dear Steemians, it is an honour to be here at this period of the day to join "The Past Machine"" contest organized by this community for Steemit Engagement Challenge Season 3 of which @hive-151446 is our host.

As it is a topic which asks us to explain just one thing we ought to do or could correct in the past if given the chance and the strategy we would take to guarantee we did it the true way if we are enabled to visit the past to amend it.

In life, no one is above mistakes as mistakes are part of it, and if we can all visit our past, I know most of us would love to rectify our mistakes, those things we did wrong, wrong actions to events or things we should have done better but we just either to neglect or let loss because of certain reasons, of which is making us sad right now whenever we recollect the memories, and it kept us wishing we could beat back time and do it the way it is deemed to be done.

Now, it is a thing of history and it conforms as a lesson and experience for us so that one would avoid making the same blunder again, since it serves as an experience, we urge other people via our missteps so they don't make the same mistakes. For this post, I would be narrating my past mistake and how I would amend it if I am privileged to be given the opportunity.

YOU HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO GO BACK TO THE PAST, WHERE WOULD YOU GO?

If I'm allowed to go back in time, I would go back to the year I was given admission to study Pure and Applied Chemistry, at the Niger Delta University, popularly known as NDU.

On printing out my admission form, I saw I was admitted to study Pure and Applied Chemistry which I didn't apply to study. Seeing my admission letter only made me cry, but everyone back home told me lets start somewhere that I would be able to change to any of my desired courses of study in my second year. Then in my second year, every policy that allowed inter-faculty transfers changed. As I was told I could carry on the change if I could make up a Commutative Gross Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 and above in a 5-point system, which I made 3.8 but the school and my faculty refused to let me change. This year is among the days I can never forget because it hurts me so bad. Remembering the incident of how I was stocked to reading Chemistry now always brings about sadness because I never wanted to study the course.

WHAT YEAR WOULD YOU TRAVEL TO?

I would most definitely go back to the year 2015, the year I was given admission to study Pure and Applied Chemistry, don't get me wrong, by doing that course I came across wonderful people I could call family but it hurts me as I never wanted the course and also because everyone talked me into it.

Also, I was helpless to them as I wasn't going to pay the tuition fees of 80,000 naira (445 steems) every year myself.

And that was how I ended up doing the course Pure and Applied Chemistry, even still I did my possible best to graduate with good grades.

My problem with the course is that, here in Nigeria, it's not a professional course, thus, making it difficult to get jobs so I was left with the only option of teaching in secondary schools.

WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE?

If given the ability to travel back to the past, I would want to change a few things which include:

TRUSTING MY ABILITIES: This is one area I find difficult even when I was in school when I was given admission to study chemistry I would have declined the admission and taken another Jamb, but I was scared I wouldn't still get what is needed for my desired course of study if scoring 225 out of 500 in my first attempt wasn't enough. Thereby making me doubt myself which was where I started losing.

THE COURAGE TO SPEAK MY MIND: I need to work on this too if I had decided to stand on my ground and not follow through as I was told, I would not have gone to study this non-professional course, like most of the people who did the course with me. Today, they are either Fashion designers, Marketers or Photographers, others went back to school to study another course.

CONCLUSION

The past is upheld as it is now history of our yesterday, still, it is left raw in our recollections so that we can learn from it and give rise to a careful decision when we are faced with such decisions again and give good advice to people in similar situations as the ones we experienced. The past serves mostly as a tool to direct us to the future coming.

This is my mistake passed, I've learned extensively from it and with the knowledge attained, I am in a better position to guide others.

Hello friend, in life there are always things that we want to change because perhaps at the time we did not make the best decisions, we lacked self-confidence or perhaps the courage to express ourselves, however, we must take what we have and try to be happy and If there is something we can do today to improve our future, then we must dare.

We loved having your participation in the challenge. We wish you many successes and blessings.

It's quite disheartening to learn that you have been admitted into a program you have no passion for, I think many Nigerians have been victims of such occurrences, but only a few were lucky enough to get the desired course.

Sorry about the pain that caused you and if I may ask, what course do you put in for originally?

I wish you good luck in the contest, @sahmie.
