What Is A Personal Elevator Pitch?

A personal elevator pitch is a quick summary of what you do to sell yourself as a professional. You can use it to introduce yourself to potential clients or employers to increase the likelihood of a positive outcome. It’s named 'elevator pitch' for the amount of time it should take to deliver it—the duration of a short elevator ride (roughly 30 to 60 seconds or 75 words).

An elevator pitch needs to:

• have a bullet - Say what you do in 7 secs or less. Don’t only say what you are.

  Example: “I help highly motivated professionals.....”

• be concise - The second part is what you believe about what you do. This part, combined with the bullet should be 30-60 secs.

  Example: ""to remove mental blocks that are limiting progress..."

• be catchy - It has to grab them! You’re looking for a wow. You want them to say, “Tell me more about that.” Telling a story is another option.

  Example: "increase their confidence and achieve specific career goals."

• be crystal clear - Don’t be vague and confusing, be clear and specific

• And it needs to: have a call to action - Give them a reason to remember you and call on you.

  Example: "Here's my business card. Contact me for a FREE 30 mins coaching session."
