All Steemian friends, soon the Christmas celebration will arrive. Joy will definitely be held soon as a form of joy for the coming of Christmas. Decorating the house, preparing cakes and food and various celebration activities.
What will definitely not be left behind is making a Christmas tree. To add to the excitement of Christmas, many people deliberately make Christmas trees, either buying or cutting down a tree and then bringing it into the house and decorating it.
The choice of tree is certainly a reason for taking a tree outside the house. The trees that are often used as Christmas trees certainly depend on each region. Although we also know that most of the trees used are conifers such as pine, pine and spruce.
This habit, which has existed since ancient times, began with the habit in Europe. Taking a pine tree in the forest and then decorating it at home with lights, candles, bells, candy, sticks or other decorations, both traditional and modern.
Christmas trees are not only made in homes but also in public places such as streets, in the middle of the city or other places to beautify the view. This is a common sight when Christmas arrives.
Greed
Apart from efforts to beautify the welcome of Christmas, it turns out that there are things that are somewhat less noticed. Behind the joy and decoration of Christmas trees, there is something that is no less sad, namely the destruction of nature. Trees that are growing are cut down to be made into decorations that only last a short time.
If each family takes trees from the forest by cutting them down and this is done every year, then more and more trees will be cut down. In previous years, trees were cut down and in the future they will still be cut down again.
Moreover, we know that everyone will definitely choose a tree that already looks beautiful because they hope that it will be even more beautiful in the house by adding decorative ornaments. that means that more and more beautiful trees will be cut down and nature will lose beautiful trees.
The loss of trees in the forest will certainly have an ecological impact. If this continues to happen, it will certainly have a bad impact on all of us. Here are the impacts:
1. Loss of forest vegetation.
The more people use pine trees and others as Christmas trees, the more the population of pine trees and Christmas trees will decrease.
2. Loss of habitat for animals
A tree can be a habitat for several types of animals, both insects such as Collembola, mites, moths, and also spiders. Several types of birds and rodents also use trees as nests to breed. During winter, they can hibernate around trees, then when the trees are cut down, they lose their homes and are threatened with death.
3. Opportunity for soil washing by rain
The felling of trees means that the rain that falls has nothing to block it so that it immediately hits the ground. As a result, the fertile soil layer will be drained and carried away by the rainwater flow. If this continues, fertile soil will be lost, which will harm us all.
Solution
Of course we should not lose the joy of Christmas while still conserving the environment by not cutting down trees as Christmas decorations. The alternatives we can do are:
1. Make an artificial tree.
We can make a tree construction and then decorate it. The construction can be made of iron or other materials as the trunk, branches and twigs. We can add ornaments from paper or its alternative as leaves.
2. Make a tree from plastic.
Existing plastic waste can be turned into trees. Plastic can be printed as a trunk, twigs and leaves at once. This is one solution to process plastic waste and also get an imitation Christmas tree.
3. Eliminate the Christmas tree.
If we dare, we can even remove the Christmas tree from inside the house. We can celebrate Christmas without a Christmas tree. We can put decorations on the walls, or fences of the house. We can invite children to unite in the joy of Christmas. We can distribute gifts like Santa Claus who sends to children.
That's my writing this time, hopefully it is useful. Thank you for stopping by and reading my post.
