in hive-153176 •  2 years ago

Steemit is a decentralized social media platform. A place that promotes originality and proof-of-work, a platform where there are rules bounding whatever you right but rewarding when you follow the rules to create your blog. You can start a blog here, promote your business, meet and connect with new people.

When did you join Steemit, and what were your thoughts about Steemit before you joined?

I joined Steemit in January 2021, after the pandemic when I was really frustrated and confused about a lot of things happening at the time. First, I was making headways in my academics and secondly, I wanted a means of earning some income.

I remember laying on my bed that evening, surfing through the internet when I stumbled upon a post about making money from writing as a student. It thrilled me to know that I could get my thoughts on a platform and also make money doing what I love. At first, I thought it would be like Facebook, where there is virtually no privacy for some things but after thorough research, I was able to find out that Steemit is different.

What are the things you have learned so far about Steemit?

Being I the platform for two years sure has taught me a lot even though I was inactive for some months but after being encouraged by a few persons and some encouraging posts, I returned and it has been an amazing ride.

  • UGC User-generated content: Steemit has taught me the importance of posting User-generated Content, content that is based on my everyday activities. Instead of letting the day be a waste of fun activities, now I can make a post about it and tell others also partake in the fun of the day.

  • Non-plagiarized Content: Aside from User-generated content, I have also learned to make thorough research about any article I want to write on. To write in my words and not plagiarised from where I have researched from. This helped me a lot when I started freelancing as a freelance writer, writing articles and blog posts for people.

  • Formatting: Aligning my content properly with specific markdowns. Before Steemit, I didn't know what is markdown or how they worked, but by constantly following some well-educative content, I learned them properly.

  • Cryptocurrency Knowledge: If not for Steemjt, I don't think I would have had the knowledge that I do now about Cryptocurrency. Some of the articles in Crypto Academy teach so much about tokens, how to trade, how to track your market, and a whole lot of massive knowledge.

  • Growth, Connections and network: Steemit is not a platform for one country. There are thousands of people here from different parts of the world. I have learned about their culture, language, and activities.

Who brought you into Steemit, and how was it when they were telling you about Steemit?

Nobody brought me to Steemit, I have never even heard of it before I came to this apace. It was a need to find places where I could write that brought me to a site. It amazed me when I saw a post that had some upvotes, I got hooked up with making research upon research about what it was all about.

Have you educated people about Steemit before? What was it like?

I have educated people about Steemit, it is not easy trying to convince someone that they can make money from writing. Most of the people that I talked to are students, and the first question some of them ask me is if it is paying.

Almost all of them are looking for a get-rich-quick scheme, exactly what Steemit is not. I have told them that with consistency and patience, they can make the money they want here but they don't want to. It is when I started reaping the fruits of my work that they understood what I was trying to tell them.

If you were to advise a newbie just joining Steemit, what advice would you give to them?

A simple that I will give to them is to never come to Steemit with the mindset of making quick money, you will be heartbroken. Be consistent, and patient, and adhere to the rules given. Without mincing words, it can be tough here especially when you want to get noticed and rewarded for your hard work. At that point, you may even feel like giving up but keep showing up and you will be surprised one day.

Conclusion

I want to appreciate @josepha for organizing this contest. I enjoyed writing about it.
