A JOURNEY THROUGH THE WILDERNESS

Lent is coined from the Anglo Saxon word lencten, meaning “lengthen”. And it refers to the lengthening of the days in spirit.

Spiritually, it is a season where our hearts are stretched , lengthened, and even pruned awaiting the new springtime blossom of the resurrection.

Lent is our pilgrimage to easter. The fourty days between Ash Wednesday and Easter , make up the liturgical season of lent. It represents the Israelites fourty years in the wilderness before arriving the Promise land (Number 14:34). And also Jesus fourty days in the wilderness before his puplic ministry began.( Math 4: 1-2).

We tend to think of the wilderness as a place of discouragement and weakness , but the Israelites were led into the wilderness by God presence in the form of cloud during the day and fire 🔥 at night (exo 13: 21-22). Christ was led into the wilderness by the Holy spirit, not to make him weak but to make him strong .

During lent, will journey away from the world to the wild. The practice of spiritual formation were actualized by christ as a means of tuning his heart to God’s will through study, solitude, fasting and meditation.

Study: open the scripture and begin to study God’s word. We study for understanding and read for pleasure.

Solitude: Detach from the world and reattach to God . For every miracle that Jesus did , he would retreat to a lonely place.

Fasting: start small small by abstaining from chocolate, one meal and fill your emptiness with spiritual food ( praying, study his word , almsgiving.).
sit quitely with God words , memorize it, open your ❤️ heart , dwell in his word and he will dwell in you.
