Hi Steemit friends..hopefully we are always in good health and enthusiastic about our activities.

From the guide I have looked at and understood all the contents of the lesson this time. The teacher has provided a good and useful lesson for this week with the theme “Steemit Learning Challenges-S22W5: Physical Therapy Interventions: And after I read all the content on the pandua post, I found new knowledge about “Physical Therapy Intervention” which has been shared by our teacher Mrs. @ashkhan, I will answer all the questions below with my understanding.

What's a golfer's elbow? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post. (Note: don't add special tests or investigations and detailed treatment in this question. Write the answer precisely).

Golf elbow or in one of the terms known as medial epicondylitis is a condition that occurs in the tendon area or inner elbow that experiences inflammation or irritation.

Causes:

Golf elbow occurs because we often experience repetitive movements that cause our wrists to become inflamed. One of the most common causes is usually when someone is exercising or playing golf where they move their elbow in the wrong position, lifting heavy objects and twisting. Other reasons include trauma or sudden injury to the elbow, wear and tear that leads to agriculture in the shoulder area, re-emergence of an old injury history in the past. Not only that, Golf elbow can also occur in people who have poor posture or ergonomics.

There are some common symptoms that often occur in Golfer's Elbow:

One of them is that the affected medial elbow will experience pain and tenderness, sometimes the wound is swollen or reddened which can be seen from the outside on the medial part of the elbow, weakness that occurs in the arm and hand grip, then stiffness that often occurs in the morning because it has not been moved for a long time, then a hot sensation that occurs in the affected tendon and pain that gets worse due to activities such as lifting heavy loads that experience stretching or twisting of the hand.

Here I will share my understanding of the 3 types of golfer's elbow

Mild stage: There is irritation and inflammation in the elbow, especially on the inside of the elbow. A person can feel mild pain occasionally when it appears, often felt after certain activities or movements. There may also be some stiffness in the elbow joint, but it does not interfere with proper movement. As for daily activities such as typing, lifting light weights, grasping objects.

In the Moderate stage: Pain and stiffness in the inner part of the elbow will be more pronounced when compared to the initial (mild) stage. Pain can be felt during activity or when you have finished doing the activity, which involves the movement of the hand or arm. The stiffness will last longer than mild pain, especially when resting where the hand is already at rest or when starting the activity again after resting. The affected area will also experience a slight swelling or warmth. Such a situation will affect many daily activities, such as lifting heavy loads, grasping objects, cooking and activities that can rotate the wrist. of course, in a conscious state the patient will reduce the use of the affected hand to avoid pain.

In the Severe stage, the condition is usually more serious, where tendon damage and inflammation will occur in the tendons in the more severe areas of the elbow. The patient will also experience severe and constant pain, even in a resting state. The arm and wrist will become more stiff and movement is difficult and even drastic. The swelling is more pronounced and red in color in the affected area, and at that time of course the patient will experience the weakness of a perfect muscle decline, such as when trying to do activities such as lifting objects, requiring a strong grip, typing, opening doors and so on. not only that, various activities in daily life will also be more difficult to do if not treated immediately, so that there will be permanent tendon damage and can affect the long-term functional of the patient.

There are 3 stages of elbow that often occur in golfers based on diseases:

  • One of them is called the “Acute Stage” which is the initial stage that occurs in the golfer's elbow condition, usually this symptom appears suddenly. Acute stage occurs within a short time after someone is injured, or it can also occur due to excessive pressure on the tendon. Symptoms can include pain that occurs in the inner area of the elbow, swelling and redness of the tendon and difficulty in making movements using the arm.

  • The second is Subactivation, where the symptoms have entered an advanced stage but less than 1 month from the initial appearance. This stage has a duration of less than one month or sometimes within days or weeks from the onset of symptoms. The Subactivation stage also has almost the same pain symptoms as the Acute stage, but less severe when the arm is moved. Stiffness and discomfort when doing activities. There is no severe swelling here, but it can also be sensitive when the arm is touched.

  • And the last is the Chronic Stage, which is severe and will take a long time to get better. These symptoms usually last for more than a month or even up to 6 weeks from the onset of symptoms and it is difficult to find signs of complete recovery. Symptoms include constant pain experienced in the elbow, which can even be felt when not moving, feeling fatigue in the arm and wrist, blocking range of motion caused by pain and stiffness, and chronic inflammation that can change tendon tissue.

How would you diagnose a golfer's elbow? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests? ( Don't add treatment to this question)

There are many methods that can perform the Golfer's Elbow Diagnosis test, but the most common ones here are as follows:

  • First is the Anamnesis test, where the doctor asks a lot of questions about the history of symptoms, daily activity history, past medical history, surgical history and family conditions that may also be classified.

  • Physical Examination, this will be done thoroughly by medical personnel to determine the areas of pain, range of motion in the arm, swelling, elbow and wrist.

  • Imaging, in order to determine the presence of inflammation in the joints or bones, this is done using X-rays.

  • Nerve and muscle tests, medical personnel will evaluate muscle weakness or nerve damage with EMG (Electromyography) and NCS (Nerve Conduction Studies), which may be associated with golfer's elbow symptoms.

These steps are aimed at confirming a diagnosis without the cause of other elbow pains

Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs or videos while practicing preferably gifs or videos.

I have done the 3 exercises perfectly as instructed by our teacher. Here is the link to my exercise video:

1. Ball Squeezing
https://youtube.com/shorts/AuVdJA6i0rs?feature=share
Ball Squeezing is a ball squeezing exercise that is done in a seated position and rests the hands on a table or somewhere reliable.

***2. Wrist Flexors Stretch
https://youtube.com/shorts/tyg54Tflh5g?feature=share
The Wrist Flexors Stretch is an exercise performed in a seated position where one hand is extended forward in a horizontal position, then perform the exercise with the help of the other hand.

3. Forearm Supination & Pronation
https://youtube.com/shorts/zaHkhmYmJ-c?feature=share
Forearm Supination & Pronation is a weight-bearing exercise by holding an object, this is also done in a seated position. The hand holding the object rotates the wrist from the tip to the elbow.

Share your review after performing these exercises either on yourself, a healthy individual or a patient.

  • Ball Squeezing

Ball Squeezing is one of my favorite exercises in this week's lesson. This exercise is so simple that I can feel myself squeezing the ball, and the muscles in my wrist and forearm become more relieved and lighter. We just take a relaxed sitting position by preparing one ball as the main tool, while the position of the elbow hand is resting on the table. while doing it I felt all the small muscles in the fingers formed stronger and felt an increase in grip strength after I did it. This is a really interesting exercise that we can apply as our daily exercise.

  • Wrist Flexors Stretch

The exercise, which involves sitting and bringing one hand forward in a horizontal position, is a really important exercise in my opinion, to increase the length of the shortened muscles in order to balance the pain. After doing this exercise, my hand feels fitter and feels like it has been untied. When doing daily activities, it feels lighter and more enjoyable. In order to improve mobility and flexibility, this exercise is perfect for us to apply in our daily lives as a daily exercise.

  • Forearm Supination & Pronation

A slightly different looking exercise, where we hold a weight with one hand, be it a hammer as we saw in the video guide or any other object that can help. This exercise makes the muscles stronger and increases the range of motion, especially in golfer's elbow patients. After doing this exercise my hand is lighter and has more range of motion in my daily activities. I think this exercise is also very suitable for me to apply as a light exercise every morning.

That's my participation in this lesson, hopefully useful. Thanks to Mrs. @ashkhan for providing this useful lesson and thanks to all of you who have stopped by my post. I would like to invite Mr. @muzack1, Mr. @walictd and Mrs. @karianaporras to participate in this challenge.

Wassalam
