My day was so full of excitement, much hard work, and fun moments. This was a visit to my friend's village just to help my friend harvest upland cassava to be used during his grandma's burial. Truly, it was such a memorable day that will forever be in my mind.
My Early Morning Activities Start🌅 |

Me seeing a new day |
---|
Waking up early in the morning, was the start of this day, whereby at dawn I couldn't wait any longer but kept thinking and having gooseflesh throughout the waiting period. Morning prayers were conducted as usual and other chores necessary to get ourselves ready for the day. We opted to leave for the farm at 6:20 am; we couldn't have waited for breakfast because our primary target was beating the afternoon sun. It would have been stressed full doing farm work during hot sun moments; thus, one of the best ideas was leaving early.

The morning breeze and the songs from birds made it a cool walk to the farm. We use the bush track as a short way to reach the farm quickly. On our way we chattered, laughed, and made up stories to tell ourselves, besides jokes too. On arrival, we promptly got down to the main business. Before us ,was an expansive field in which hundreds of lines of cassava plants were just ready for reaping.
We then change our wears ,and started the hard work of harvesting cassava. It was not an easy process; it was somehow fun since we were working in a team. We pulled the cassava roots one by one into baskets and sacks from the ground. The sun began to climb high, and we were all sweating profusely, yet we did not stop. Helping my friend's family and being part of their tradition motivated me.
Later in the morning, my friend's mum brought us some food to the farm. She prepared Afang soup, and eba for us , we overjoy ourselves with cold palm wine. We spread a cloth on the floor and get sitted. With this, the mouth heavily watered to really take a well-worthy break to eat. The Afang was highly rich, while the eba just okay for the degree and energy for the work; the cold refreshing meal kept our stomach active again.

My Afternoon Activities Start🌄 |

At midday, we had a fair amount of cassava harvested. We agreed to go home and rest, trying to avoid the hottest part of the day. While home, we used this time peeling the cassava. A little stressed, though shared between us, it became a fan activity: telling stories and laughing, hence the job was not felt so heavy as it supposed to.
Resting and peeling the cassava 👇
We got back to the farm around 3 pm to finish up the harvest. The sun did not feel that hot, so it was not all that uncomfortable. By the time we had finished the remaining cassava, we had felt quite accomplished. The farm looked so different with all the cassava harvested; we were proud of ourselves.
My Evening Activities🌇/at the Stream🏊 |

Next, we reached the cooling waters of the village streamwhere we cleaned our bodies from the accumulated dirt and sweat of our body. On the way, we passed by a shop where we bought some soap.

The swimming in the stream was now a burning desire, and I couldn't wait.
At last, we reached the stream that had been presenting a very lively scenario. Adults and children were playing in the water and swimming to enjoy cool water.
Arriving the stream, adult and children were there👇
I was very happy because for four years now, I had never swum. Instantly I pulled off my trousers remaining only with my shorts and hit the water. We were able to make quite a number of splashes and swam a lot in the water. However it was Cool and refreshing, it was a nice fun after a day's hard work.
After some fun in the stream for two hours, as seen in the picture above, we began to feel cold and knew that probably we needed to get going. We got ourselves out of water, rest a bit, sitted on the sun, which we were later dried and dressed of with another set of clothes we came with. Indeed, the walk back home was somehow stressful and funny.
Walking on the hill 👇
The hill stress wasn't felt on our coming because we were slooping down ,but it is felt on our going because we were climbing up. And the hill appeared to be way too long. By the time we got to the house, we were all sweating once again.
Then we went back home to have our dinner, we sat together, and ate while narrating the day's events. All that was done at the farm, all the fun at the stream, and literally everything in between-we shared it all. My day was just full of varieties of experiences, and the sharing seemed to make my day even more special.
Lying in bed at night, I reflected on the day: hard work, fun, and new experiences. It had been satisfying, helping my friend's family with the cassava harvest up for their grandma's burial. The visit to the stream was a memorable end to my day, topped up with a sustained laughter and stories.Indeed, it was one well-spent day, and I hope to spend many more days, with them this way at the village.
