Proper Waste Disposal
Our day to day activities involves a lot of material items and at the end of the day we come up with a lot of items that are leftovers as waste.
Waste can be anything from used water, spoilt or leftover food, scraps of wood from wood work, plastic bags and bottles we get from the stores, left over metals from a construction project and so on.
We can say Waste is any material that we longer need because it has no further use or value and needs to be disposed.
Some waste are easy to dispose, waste like left over food, soapy water after laundry or a chopped down pawpaw tree and an old news paper, all being biodegradable.
We also generate another group of waste that are not easily broken down by natural processes, wast like plastic in form of bottles, wrapping paper, fishing nets rubber like car tires, boots and other tools
This wast will require human intervention because natural organisms can not feed on them and the natural elements has less effects on them.
The importance of preserving the environment
To help preserve our environment, waste should be properly managed, the waste should be sorted, some items in our waste can be recycled and reused, waste from our kitchen are mostly biodegradable and can function as manure in our garden.
If not properly managed, plastic waste can make it's way into the soil, having adverse effects on agriculture.
Solid wast can be a pollutant
Land that will have been used to grow food have become dump sites, and a place like the one in the picture above can not be used for agriculture after removing this waste because it mix into the soil.
If it is carried to our rivers and oceans, it kills marine lives and birds.
A bird tangled in a net
Fish and birds have been seen traped by old nets floating in the water. It will cust plenty of money to clean our rivers and oceans, making it free from plastic materials.
Minimize risk factors that aggravate the condition of the earth.
The two groups of waste mention above are not as bad as this group that are actively causing damage to our environment.
This are waste materials coming in form of gases, chemicals and oil. These wastes are toxic and destructive, some of the waste are radioactive and unstable. Responsible for many health conditions that are rampant today.
Living in a country that exports crude oil, we regularly have the problem of oil spillage in our rivers and land.once the oil is spilled, the land or body of water is damaged. You can't fish or farm in it.
Doing the smallest things to save the earth
**"
Simple acts like sorting your waste is a good start. Arrange the waste based on the type of material to ease waste management.
Recycling materials will reduce the needed to make more plastic or cut down more trees. This will reduce the amount of waste in our environment.
Deliberately avoid being wasteful in all areas. Make efficient use of materials and resources. Go shopping with a nice bag you can use again and again. Use different bags only when items can not be transported in the same bag.
Conclusion
This earth is the only home we have,
Let our gift to our children be an environment that is clean and less hazardous. Let's practice efficient use of materials to avoid wastage, go green as soon as possible.
Research clean forms of power and migrate from using the old one.
