Coptotermes formosanus (Termites): Destroying My Family's Heritage Home"

The termite colony has caused huge losses to me in recent times, 1 house unit with a wooden structure and its contents became their nest. Since getting married in 2015, the house that my parents inherited from me has been uninhabited. I left it empty for almost two years.

I was shocked when I entered the main room which contained medical, midwifery and nursing books, the bed, wardrobe and several lecture notebooks had become a termite nest.

Even though it cost quite a lot to buy a number of medical books, I couldn't use them, every book that had very thick pages had been destroyed. Likewise, sleeping beds with wooden structures also become termite nests.

I looked behind the door, there was a pillar supporting this old house which had a hole in it, dirt and black mud had stuck along the pole. Not only that, but several parts of the bedroom walls also experienced the same thing.

After getting married and living in the district capital, I just left this house, no one entered the house, so the air temperature in the house became humid and triggered termites to build colonies in almost the corners of this house.

The ceiling has collapsed because it is inhabited by termites

The supporting pillars and walls of the house are rotting

I once tried to eradicate it by smearing used engine oil on the surface of the wood that had become a termite nest, but it was in vain, their population continued to increase and became a terrifying destructive monster. I also changed the extermination pattern using mothballs, but it didn't have any results.
Termites continue to grow and become more brutal.

This old house can no longer be used, I think almost every part of this house has become its nest, even though all the wood used is selected mirabow wood of the best quality. It is not impossible for termites, they have formed colonies in pillars, wall boards and floors that have hard surfaces.

At this time I chose to live in another heritage concrete house located 10 meters from this old house, surprisingly they also attacked the plate rack made of aluminium. I thought, will this house also be destroyed?
The roof frame, doors and frames also use wood, I think they will also attack those parts if they eradicate their colony on the plate rack.

Termite exterminator

I started trying to find a termite exterminator in an online shop and ordered it for IDR. 80,000, after a few days my order arrived at my house.

Today I started to take out all the kitchen equipment and tried spraying termite-repellent liquid on the entire surface of the dish rack, I am not sure that these termites can be destroyed, but trying is not wrong.

Hopefully, this problem can be resolved and I can live in peace without the disturbance of destructive pests such as termites.

Termites are disaster for everything made of wood, it is a shame that you did not see it in time otherwise you would be able to replace only some of the timber that is affected.

Hope your treatment of wood will help.

That's right, I've ignored it for 3 years, the house was uninhabited and I just left it like that, when I came back everything was destroyed, now just waiting for the house to collapse.

But fortunately in other houses it was detected more quickly, I immediately looked for a solution by spraying termite exterminator liquid. I don't know if this will work?

Do you have any tips? I'm worried that when i start disturbing their colony, the same thing will happen again.

We had Larva of wood boring beetle, we do not have termites here but still the affescted wood looks like that:

In our case we removed those wood flooring and replaced with laminate but in your case it seems to be a large area affected. Hope the termite killer will work, but it seems you still need to replace some of wood too.

Looks like I have to dismantle this old house and soak all the wood so it can be used for something else, this house really can't be used anymore.

For the other house I live in now, as you said, I have to replace it and spray liquid to prevent it

I'm sorry to hear about the challenges with termites in your family's heritage home. It must be heartbreaking to see such damage to your parents' cherished property. Wishing you success in eradicating them for good
