Most Mondays, I wake up and I feel like I should just remain in my bed. I most times wish I could get rid of all forms of stress. But it is rather unfortunate that stress is part of life and so it is totally unavoidable. Everyday, you go to work, beat deadlines, attend to emergencies, attend to the family and so on. Stress is just natural but at the same time you should never push your body beyond its limit. In as much as stress is part of life, one must make sure it doesn't become constant as it can cause serious damage to your health.
There are many ways of managing stressful situations. But these steps are not to completely eliminate stress, but they can only help to avoid unnecessary stress.
Physicists define stress as the force per unit area(pressure) applied on a body or within a body which the body reacts to and is eventually strained or deformed. In my opinion, I think this definition can also be applied to humans. Our jobs, for example can be described as the force per unit area. Over time our body reacts to this force and is strained. There is a level of stress your body and mind can handle. Dealing with too much stress leads to weakened immune system and malfunctioning body systems. It's important to identify your stressors even though it could be quite difficult to do so. It could be a relationship, your work environment or a lifestyle. If stressors are not identified quickly, rash decisions may be made.
HOW DO I HANDLE STRESSFUL SITUATIONS?
Now let's talk about my techniques for handling stressful situations. As a 21st century teacher, a lot is expected of me, so there's always so much work to be done. When I got my present job newly, I complained everyday of how stressful it was. There was always too much on my table. One day, I sat myself down and I talked to myself. I tried to find out if my boss was really the problem. After asking myself a few questions, I discovered that I was my own problem. I was always procrastinating, so there was always a pile of work to be done. After that day, I changed my mindset. Every morning, I wake up with a plan in my head. As I go to work, I know what I am to do and when I am to do it. I make a list in order of preference and I set reasonable time frames for each task.
After work, I have a home to run. Combining work and family can be very exhausting. There was a time in my life that I was always feeling frustrated and every little thing got me angry. But later on in my life I learnt a trick. One of the best ways to manage stressful situations is to stay happy. It's not so easy to be happy when you are stressed. It's a habit one learns over time. Find reasons to be happy and stay happy. Once in a while, take yourself out and have lots of fun. Go to the gym or maybe play the songs of you like and dance to them.
Lastly, one thing I do to handle stressful situations is to talk to someone I love. In some cases, you could also talk to someone you have a crush on. It has a way of making you feel more relaxed and happy. In life, it's necessary to have someone you can always talk to and someone that's always ready to listen.
