On Friday which was on the 3rd of December 2021. Today being Ghana National Farmers day, we decided to Vist some of the farms in the community. So I started the day with my daily activities.
After this, the group went for the visiting of farms. We set off around 8:00 in the morning since it's harvesting season they usually go to their farms very early to start with their harvest so going early was our aim so that we can also take part in the harvesting. We first went to a man called Mr Peter farm who is one of the great farmers in the community.
Mr Peter farms a lot and has different kind of crops in that community. He has a maize farm which is about 15 hector, a Rice farm which is 12 hector, a Millet farm too is there and other crops. Mr Peter decided to send us to his Rice farm which was far from the homestead. The farms of the natives are averagely about 5km away from their homes. They mostly go there on foot, ride on bicycle or motorbike as their means of transport to and from the farms but some due use donkeys as their means of transportation.
Some few minutes later we got to Mr Peter Rice farm and he showed us the boundary of his farm. They were some people doing the harvesting so we decided to join them and help. Mr Peter taught us how they do the harvesting. Some of my group members find it difficult to work because that was their first time to harvest rice and to do that kind of work. We worked for some hours and we were very tired so we went and had some rest under a tree.
Mr Peter was very happy for our coming and we were also happy and glad for the good work he has been doing for Mother Ghana towards it's economic development. We thank him very much and encourage him to do more for the development of their community and Ghana at large. After that, decided to head home after finishing what we came there for.
As we were on our way home, we saw another woman on her farm also harvesting her crop so we decided to pass by and help her small. The woman was harvesting beans which none of us have ever harvested before. The woman gave us directions and show us how they do it. We did well by helping her to cover almost half of the work. From our interview with the woman, it was realized that almost every farmer in the community relies on the man power, little machinery, hired labour and communal labour. We encourage her to also do more of the farming and decided to get back home. She gave us some of the beans that we harvested to go home and also try it.
we thanked her very well for giving us the beans and also educating us on how to harvest beans before leaving. We went to our accommodation after this. After I got back I quickly took my bath because I didn't take my bath before leaving since we were going to the farm.
I rested for some time and took my lunch, I was very tired but I couldn't miss playing my evening football. I played football in the evening time, came back and had my bath. I had my prayers and discussed some issues relating to the group.
Thank you for reading.
