Is Steemit fair?

After my post of yesterday, Is life fair? and the interaction I had with it I decided to take it one step further today.

Is Steemit fair?

Again, it is a difficult and also troublesome question to answers.

Just like with life most Steemians, including me, will say that Steemit is not fair.

• Not everybody gets votes
• Stupid photos get hundreds of dollars within minutes
• Good quality posts are often not the winning posts

If you are one of those who says Steemit is fair you are for sure on the winning side. Whatever you do, just don’t raise your hand.

In my post of yesterday I based the fairness of life on four things;

1. Experiences
2. Perception
3. Expectations
4. Emotions

All four of these are not only applicable to life but also applicable to Steemit.

Your experience might be the “thing” which tips the scale to unfairness.

Maybe you have not received support on your posts or maybe it is that you feel that your post didn’t leave the impression you thought it would.

I will be the first to admit that it has happened to me. I feel disappointed when I write a post and it doesn’t do well.

Merriam-webster.com explains “experience” as “the process of living through an event or events”.

Wow! I cannot describe the experience on Steemit in a better way.

What I have learned from my experience on Steemit is that we are all different. What might be good for me might not be good for the readers.
BUT I have also seen the other side of it. I once wrote what I will call in my words, a crappy post. In the end it was not what the readers thought. They loved it.

If you are experiencing that your posts are not performing like you want it to, change it. As easy as that. With my return to Steemit I wasted nearly a month of posting just a photo and short description every day.

I had to learn about “the process of living through the events” on Steemit.

In my eyes one of the biggest evils on Steemit is perception and it is for sure the main reason for Steemians to feel that Steemit is unfair.

If a Steemian is doing well the perception is that he or she is “the big cheese” and receives all the support.

Now if you watch the television program “Survivor” you will know that if you find an hidden immunity idol and the other contestants knows about it you’ve put a big target on your back. It is exactly the same with Steemit.
Somehow you want to do well but you also don’t want to as you can so easily become the target of perception.

It makes me wonder how Steemit, the company, feels about the perception about Steemit and STEEM from the viewpoint of other social networks, cryptocurrencies and blockchains. The so called “cryptoanarchist shortcomings” . Is the perception fair or unfair?

I am 100% sure that the scale tips to unfair.

Your expectations makes you believe that Steemit is unfair.

No matter what we do in life we all have expectations for doing it. It might not be willingly but I can assure you it is there.

♚ If you make your husband a cup of coffee your expectation is for him to appreciate it.

♚ If you can come home with a salary cheque at the end of the month you expect your family to say thank you.

♚ If you write a good post you expect to be rewarded for it.

There is nothing wrong with having expectations. In fact it is our expectations which drives us to push forward, which makes us excited and what gets us to write that fantastic post.

I have expectations and I am not shy to admit it. Does it make me feel Steemit is unfair? I don’t think so. For me it is my motivation to do better.

Let me take you back to the engagement challenges of the last season. In one week I was nominated by three of the communities as one of the three top entries they received. I knew the nail was in the coffin.
Although my next entries might be good the chances was slim that I will be nominated for a second time and I had no expectations thereof.

Is it fair? You might think the answer is no. For me the answer is yes! If I was a MOD/Admin on those communities I would like to give my nominee to someone else. A fair opportunity and inspiration for others.

As country representatives, curators and MOD’s you literally spend hours on the platform. If we had expectation to be rewarded for the work we do we would all fail miserably.

Unfortunately we have to learn and deal with it that expectations are not always rewarded, not even with a thank you.

Let’s call our journeys on Steemit journeys of “experiential learning” and turn our expectations into possible HOPE.

In Steemit’s own words;

“Steem is a social blockchain that grows communities
and makes immediate revenue streams possible for users by rewarding
them for sharing content.”

I just love the word POSSIBLE!

Life was not designed to be unfair. It was designed to be a blessing, a wonderful adventure which we only get to enjoy for a very short time.

Steemit was not designed to be unfair. It was designed as a social media platform to be enjoyed by authors and to be seen as a blessing for a potential income. Something we so often forget.

The last point, emotions.

The experts say that your emotions can run away with you. Man oh man! This is so clear on Steemit and again, I have to raise my hand. I can get very emotional and it often makes me think that Steemit is unfair.

Rewarding quality posts. Umh… What is a quality post? Is it one that is written in good English with perfect photos or is it a post written in terrible English with bad photos but written so that you know that it is the best that that author can give you?
Sue me if you want to but I go for the latter.

Do you know what? You cannot run away from your emotions. Not in real life and not on Steemit. We all want our posts to be loved, we all want to belong to a community or two, we all want to feel save and we all want that little bit of a praise for our posts.

In the end, does it really matter if Steemit is fair or unfair? No it doesn't!

After all, you still rule as the king on your chessboard.

My advice to you.

Put a second sticky note on your screen, on you fridge, wherever you find it best, that states that you must;

Write so that YOU enjoy it and that YOU can be proud of it!

This is gorgeous. Type of post you suddenly don't want to stop ready cuz the writing gets to climax after climax.😊.
I will say you have been keen of the platform and you just have a lot to say..
For me. Is steemit fair 🤔.
My response is indirect.. creating post and lots more on the platform isn't just enough irrespective of the content. Our journey on steem is a step by step. And often at times there are things we are missing that others are doing to get rewarded massive. I believe I working on push in the direction of the winning team.thats to say. I figured out our what there are up to and I follow their steps. Fairs to me is 50-50
Thanks for educative post ma'am.

I like your 50-50 reply. It is also applicable to how we feel about life in general.
I suppose it depends on our mood for the day. (•ิ‿•ิ)
In the end what matters is what you've said, to grow our Steemit journey step by step and to carry on.
I've often asked myself what is it that I am missing on Steemit. Now I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this question.
Thank you for reading and engaging!
I enjoyed your response.

I myself am very motivated by what you say here, you are great, thank you for sharing this.

It is wonderful to know that I have motivated my fellow Steemians with this post.
Sometimes we just need to take some time and consider facts.
Thank you for reading and for engaging with my post!

What you say is true and it is a fact now. From this article, you have represented thousands of steemians who are active on the Steemit platform. Success for you🍻

Thank you!
As it is early morning by us I will give you a cup of ☕

thanks @patjewell, I have a lot to learn from you.

You are doing well my friend. I've been watching you (•ิ‿•ิ)
Thank you for reading my post and replying on it. I appreciate it.

👌

Steemit was not designed to be unfair. It was designed as a social media platform to be enjoyed by authors and to be seen as a blessing for a potential income. Something we so often forget.

This is the right way it should be. Sometimes things go well and the other time it just go wired. However, we keep moving forward. Thanks for your motivational words. I have taken your advice to heart

Hello my friend! I hope you had an awesome day.
It is true what you say, sometimes things just go "wired".
In the end we are all human and we are all in control of our own lives and it is for us to take control of it. In real life and also here on Steemit.

Sure! And that is why we are still on the move. Taking control of our lives is what we should all do and not let something else control it for us.

I had an awesome day today. In fact, I have reviewed my day today. You can check it out here. Hope you enjoyed yours too?

Thank you, I had nice day.
You've got mail. (•ิ‿•ิ)

Quotation: "If you are one of those who says Steemit is fair you are for sure on the winning side."

Most of the people who start here are on the losing side at the beginning, but those who stick it out long enough will sooner or later end up on the winning side, unless of course someone gives up too early.

Since both occur here and the odds are usually the same, Steemit is fair in my view, even if fairness does not automatically protect against an initial dry spell that everyone has to overcome before progressing.

Okay, I enjoyed your reply! (•ิ‿•ิ)
I love your statement regarding the "dry season". I am sure that most Steemians are just too familiar with that.
You are right, just keep on doing what you doing and do it to your best. I was one of those who gave up many years ago. IF only I hadn't...
Thanks for the visit!

that perception is the key word, all that fails miserably are those who are wrong in laying down their perception. when there are words "support is not guaranteed", we should all be prepared to see something that good content will lose to a post that is not good (in our opinion), or vice versa which is normal. since good or bad is relative, is there a guarantee of support for someone in club100? not necessarily, going back to the words allow, probable or possible. I and probably many people can only write and hope that as you say, it is important not to get carried away with emotions, and just have fun with the post, because bad or not is relative, it is quite fair to think like that.

Very good post Mrs.patjewell, thank you for this learning post.

It is for me to say thank you for reading my post and for engaging with it!
"support is not guaranteed" - This is so true although I am sure all of us hope for it.
The big mistake is that people forget that nothing life is guaranteed. Not even the air we breath in.
It warms my heart to read that you have learned from my post, thank you!

Thank you so much for the motivation Mrs. @patjewell

The pleasure is all mine!
Now it is time to write... write... and write!
Good luck!

Yes of course Mrs @patjewell
Let's get used to writing

Thank you for going further again to explain your yesterday's topic. I think we will not be discouraged if we don't put more expectations on things. I have learned this and still learning it presently. Sometimes we think we deserve something, and when we don't eventually get it, we get disappointed.

Ah ha! Deserve... that is like a swearing word.
Why is that we often only think we deserve something when it is good where in fact deserve is for good and bad? We never think we deserve the bad.
As humans, we are such interesting characters.
Thank you for reading my post my friend. As for your engagement, it is always top notch!

Sometimes one will ask, "why do you love a person so much?" My answer is, if the person touches your ❤️ in a very special way. @patjewell, you have a way of touching my heart with most of your posts. You have just answered or should I say cleared my doubt and pain with your advice...

so that you enjoy it, and that you can be proud of it.

That settles the case for me because sometimes I think Steemit is not fair at all. I say a big 'thank you' to this advice ma. Let me steem on patiently.

You know what? You are allowed to feel like that with times. I do as well.
What counts is what you are going to do about it and how quickly you are going to do it.
Thank you for your beautiful words. It is my turn to say, "You warm my heart with your words" 🎕
Whatever you do, don't give up. Keep on writing!!!

This is truly a word of motivation, As a human, it is normal for us to think like this when we write and did not receive a reward. We should keep going, make good articles, and believe in our articles that one day, our effort will pay off. Thank you for sharing this, I enjoy reading this article.

We are all just human and that is what makes not only life but also Steemit so interesting.
I've learned in life to forget about the "Jones family" who stays next to you.
It is for your to do your own thing and to do it to your best.
Thank you for stopping by my friend and for enjoying my post. 🎕

You are welcome ma

Thankyou @queensley for directing me here.

And welldone @patjewell this post is thoughtful and had just been my mind. In fact, i was still working on my post on it.
You're doing great

I'm sorry I got to post mine before yours my friend. (•ิ‿•ิ)
I think it is a question on many Steemians mind and I hope they've found the answer in this post.
One day Steemit will be fair and the next day... it will be unfair.
Thank you for reading and your kind words 🎕

Thanks maam.you just spoke our minds you know

Haha!
Thanks for the visit my friend! 🎕

Steemit is fair to some while it's unfair to others it's just based on the users, it has been quite unfair in the past three months to me because I have been in club100 and being active and I also has a good voting CSI record but I rarely get sc1 upvotes

You know what? With time we all feel like that.
You work your backside off on the platform and the return is just a drop in the bucket. Worse of all the return is on posts where you had to get it like being a pick of a challenge.
Then I look at my husband who is constantly on FB. What is his return? Nothing.
I will then rather take the drop than the nothing.
Keep writing my friend! And... enter contest. Make sure you get some Steem.
Good luck!

You are right friend, it's only those that give up loose. I will keep trying my best.

Just think for one minute.. Where do you think I would have been if I had not given up in 2016 when I joined?
It makes me feeling so cross with myself... if only..

You are right you would have been a whale by now, no problem. I will keep trying my luck and keep doing my best. Hopefully one day I will be where I want

You can get there! If I can, you can!

Hello ma'am,
greetings u are just writting this note which i think in the mind of every steemians, really got motivated from u, I have alot to learn from u,plz review my my profile and give your valuable suggestions.

Hello my friend!
Thank you for reading and engaging with my post. As long as you have learned something I am happy.
OK, you've got some mail on Telegram.
I had a look at you last post and I have made some suggestion.
Your post is great! You just need to check it before you post it.
Keep on writing! ✍

Thank you so much for your kind suggestion,I have got what you wants to say. I will check my post in HTML view before posting. I appreciate your guidance in future too .

The pleasure is all mine! If there is anything else I can help you with just shout (•ิ‿•ิ)

Great motivation. Thanks for sharing...🙏

Thanks for the visit teammate! It is appreciated!
Good luck for tomorrow!

Just like with life most Steemians, including me, will say that Steemit is not fair.

Its a thing of rationale, based on the view of us all.. Yes, I can say steemit is not fair, but I won't change anything if I don't put in the work from my own end.

But still, it is not to me. But who am I to complain, am just starting to know what steemit is all about. Thank you for this great piece of work

Ah ha! That is what makes Steemit different and also unique, there is no-one to complain to. No boss who's door you can knock on.
In the end it is only you and what you do on the platform.
Guess what? I learn with each new day. Keep learning my friend, keep on enjoying it and keep on writing!
Thank you for reading my post!

It is also kind of hurtful when you know you have outdone your best and then get a message saying your work is not good enough. Example is this case below

Screenshot_2022-08-20-23-01-40-077_com.android.chrome.jpg

I had a Score of 9.5 out of 10 in a contest of which support was to come for that, but then, I got this as

IMG_20220821_070312.jpg

As the reply from the booming I was expecting and it makes me wonder if I offended anyone or I did the grading myself. But even though its quite hurtful.. What can I do?

Hi!
I agree with @alejos7ven which replied on your questions.
Stay away from bid vote. Even krsuccess is considered a bid vote by some curators.
The only other thing I will suggest is for you to make your images smaller. You images must never take up more space than your post.

I normally use https://steemitimages.com/500x600/ in front of my images to make them smaller.

Good luck!

Apparently I don't use any bot, and am not here to dispute anyone.

The only other thing I will suggest is for you to make your images smaller. You images must never take up more space than your post.

Thank you for help.

The pleasure is mine!
CC me in your next post then I can look at your images etc. to see if there is anything else I can help you with

Thank you ma'am I am very much grateful.

Please don't let me be misunderstood - I like your reflections! I will study them carefully. Meanwhile I have two notices:

Stupid photos

In whose eyes?

Fairness or not - this is not a fact, this is an evaluation. On which values is this based? Do you look forward on such values that could be regarded as universal or at least wished to be?

I'm talking to myself and asking myself.

If you write a good post you expect to be rewarded for it.

Yes, I do.
BUT! It is MY OWN decision what I take for "reward" - be it votes, be it comments, be it read only. The latter seems unprovable. But possible to think of.
Let me return to votes and comments as the obvious "rewards". Is it the amount of them? Or is it again MY OWN decision to take the votes and comments of those I respect most as my most valuable reward?

Life was not designed to be unfair.

No, it wasn't. By sure.
Why can I be sure?
Because life was not designed. Therefore it can't have been designed to be neither fair nor unfair.

Steemit was not designed to be unfair. It was designed as a social media platform to be enjoyed by authors and to be seen as a blessing for a potential income. Something we so often forget.

I've not been one of the inventors. But I like this opinion above. Let's see it in this way!

I can get very emotional and it often makes me think that Steemit is unfair.

So it seems clear enough for me that you have to deal more with your emotions than with the facts.

What is a quality post?

Hah! This reminds me to Pilatus: What is truth?

Is it one that is written in good English

I'm very disappointed at this point: "ENGLISH"?
Und aus Protest fahre ich fort in Deutsch!
Steem ist international, viele Communities sind von ihren Regionen und Sprachen als Teil ihrer Kultur geprägt, und wir brauchen niemand, der allen eine einzige Sprache überstülpen will.

I remember MTV to having propagized: one music one planet. Bullshit! They realised it themselves and diversed their broadcast for regions.

Finally I think and hope that your naming of just one (of course a prominent) language was not meant to be read literally, was it?

What is a quality post? Is it one that is written in good English with perfect photos or is it a post written in terrible English with bad photos but written so that you know that it is the best that that author can give you?
Sue me if you want to but I go for the latter.

I don't go for the latter nor for the first. This question, your question, opens a two-way perspective and hereby closes other perspectives.

A good qualitiy content is such content you can read with your own raising of your spirit and your mind. May the author just have dropped some little nice words - regardless of that, just these words may reach you in your situation and in your thinking, and so it becomes in this moment a qualitiy content for you.
Next day you look at it with other eyes, maybe. So what?

The author's effort seems not to be a valuable criterion for quality content, and there I see one reason for this argument:
Me for myself I can write with concentration and effort to give a quality content, and in the end, I can have failed. In my own eyes. Should I now post or not? Or - I can have written down easily and with flowing words, joking (maybe) and smiling: can this not be good quality in its peculiar way?

Write so that YOU enjoy it and that YOU can be proud of it!

This seems to be a good conclusion, but is it really?

NO - if you rely on emotions.
YES - if you rely on reflections.

While I feel proud only of producing myself, I am not grown up enough.
While I'm humble and provide my writing with no look for rewards in the common sense, I may be not proud of my writing, I may enjoy it nevertheless - and further more I may enjoy the comments of those I like and respect.

That all is said in first person.

Yesooo, i want a praise for my post, sometimes after trying my best and i didnt win , it really weak me but i must keep pushing.

My friend, just keep on writing quality posts, keep on taking part in contest, keep on supporting your fellow Steemians and keep on powering up.
If you do these things it will happen. Not every time but it will.
We are all in the same boat.
Thanks for reading and engaging. 🎕
