The Latest Trends In My Locality

Introduction

A lot is trending in Nigeria. In fact, the rate at which Nigeria trends on news this days, you will be wondering if we’re world power. From social media fights with other African countries, to politics, to criminality, to academic success etc. A lot has been happening this year but I will be sharing with you some of the latest trending stories beginning from my locality.

HRM king Ateke Tom.

Well, for many people living outside the southern part of Nigeria, this name might sound a little bit strange to you because it might be first time you are hearing it. King Ateke Tom, is one of the frontiers for the Niger Delta struggle and a repented militant. He’s the first king of Okochiri kingdom in Okrika, although he was second class king. Just recently, he was elevated by the governor of Rivers State to be among the first class kings. That position is actually a big feat for him and also to my people in Okrika, Rivers state.

There are some initiatives that you will see around your locality, you just can’t ignore it. You will be wondering, who gave this person such a brilliant idea. One of such initiatives was done by the Local Government chairman of Andoni In Rivers State. The chairman empowered the physically challenged people with a POS machine and #100,000 to start up the business.

POS business is one of the lucrative business in Nigeria. You don’t need a shop, if they can site a busy location, they will even make enough money because people will be happy to see them fend for themselves especially this challenging period in our country.

Governor of Rivers state

This is not the first time our governor has been trending on news since he entered office. Yesterday or two days ago, he was saying that for the peace of rivers state, he is willing to resign. Trust me, this is not what people from the ijaw nation or riverine community want to hear in rivers state.

Since 1999 till last year, it has only been people from the upland region that has been ruling and finally an ijaw descendant had finally taken power and you are saying you want to resign for peace to reign, when you have the backing of the most stubborn people in rivers state??? It can’t happen. We are not people of peace, we’re people of war, the Liquid Metal, the lion… lol..

I think this governor needs a touch from pastor indabosky pahose, to remind him from the tribe he comes from or better still an “abido shaker” energy drink to shake his memory, so that he’ll know is an ijaw man and we don’t run away fights.

Let’s move away from rivers state, let’s stroll down to entertainment industry.

Demise of a Legend

I actually wanted to end this stuff by focusing on only Rivers state but I can’t end it without talking about the demise of one of our greatest Nollywood legends, John Okafor aka Mr ibu. This man had put smiles in the face of many Nigerians to forget about our sorrows in his comedies. My first time seeing him was in a popular Nigeria movie, “issakaba”. That was the reigning movie then around year 2000. He was the comic relief. Since then, he has been blessing our screens with his funny movies.

He died few days ago of a disease blood vessel and other several related diseases that even led to the amputation of one of his legs. May God give his family the strength to bear his loss and may his gentle soul rest in peace.
