Bitter gourd is an indigenous vegetable. Bitter gourd grows in rural areas of Bangladesh. Currently, bitter gourd is available almost all time of the year. The scientific name of bitter gourd is Momordica charantia. Bitter gourd is very popular in the market in Bangladesh. Because it is bitter in taste and adds flavor to the food. So it can be said that it is full of both taste and quality. Bitter gourd is cultivated in almost all months except Poush and Magh in Bangladesh. It is necessary to cultivate bitter gourd for the financial and nutritional needs of our country. We need to know what steps should be taken to grow gourd. Various steps need to be taken for this. I am trying to discuss that step.
Step No-1 (Selecting suitable land): Land should be selected which has regular sunlight. The land should have an irrigation and drainage system.
Step No. 2 The soil of the selected land will be best if it is atel. loam and silt.
Step No-3 For the sowing of gourd seeds, the soil of the land should be plowed very carefully with 4 to 5 hoes. So that there are no tails or weeds.
Step No-5 The land for sowing should be higher than the other land. So that the rainwater does not stay on the land.
Before sowing, the seeds should be thoroughly soaked with water for about 15 to 18 hours. The seeds are ready for sowing when they sprout.
Step No-6 Make the seedbeds for sowing. The distance between each seedbed is 1.5 meters. And 2 seeds are to be sown in each seedbed.
Step No-7 In winter, the seed bed should be covered with polythene at night. So that the seed bed does not get cold. If it gets cold, the growth of the plant decreases.
Step No-8 Weeding should be done regularly. There should be no weeds around the plant. Otherwise plant growth and yield will be low.
Step No-9 Bio-chemical fertilizers and pesticides should be used according to the fertility of the land and for the eradication of diseases.
Step No-10 Water as required.
Step No- 11 If necessary, consult an agronomist.
Hopefully, if the above steps are completed correctly, the expected results will be obtained in the cultivation of gourds.
