The peace agreement was implemented by the Sheikh Hachina government on December 2, 1997 to end the conflict in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. Since then, this day is observed almost every year on the 2nd of December through various ceremonies.

Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord (English: Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord) which is also known as Chittagong Hill Tracts Agreement, 1997. It is a political agreement and peace agreement signed on 2 December 1997 between the Government of Bangladesh and the Chittagong Hill Tracts Society (PCJSS). The agreement recognizes the rights of the people and tribes of the Chittagong Hill Tracts and is believed to end decades of insurgency between peacekeepers and the government.

People here celebrate this day with various cultural events. The special attraction of this day is the boating competition. Now 5 teams from women's team, and 6 teams from boys participated with 20 members in each team.

The prize for today's boat race is 50,000 taka for the first winning team, 35,000 taka for the second winning team, 35,000 taka for the third winning team, 25,000 taka.
