INTRODUCTION |
---|
Good day my good people of this wonderful and prestigious community. I have been gone for a while now due to recent academic activities, which would mostly involve a lot of stress due to the current cost of things in the present economy of the country.
So today I’m going to write about most of those challenges I myself have faced in the past few months in the university. Which are as follows;
- FINANCIAL STRESS
- ACADEMIC PRESSURE
- SOCIAL CHALLENGES
- MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES
- EXAMINATION, etc.
If I am to keep mentioning al it would take a lot of time and space. So let’s discuss these vital threats to the wellbeing of a scholar.
FINANCIAL STRESS |
---|
This has to do with things concerning money for example;
- Tuition fees (Payment of school fees/ dues, Purchase of materials/manuals)
- Living expenses (Food, Clothing, Rent of accommodation, Transportation, etc.)
These all require income which may lead a student into acquiring such through part time jobs. In return it might affect his or her time of studies thereby making it difficult to cope without support from loved ones and family members.
ACADEMIC PRESSURE |
---|
Sometimes the course of study might require a large amount of work load, such as the programming courses I’m currently studying which requires the learning of multiple programming languages within a short period of time and also to accompany that, you will need a proper code editor and a personal computer (laptop) to be able to learn effectively. This is a challenge for most of my colleges with financial instability.
To add to it all some lecturers might be out to frustrate students that are not of their liking for certain reasons e.g; Ethnicity, Refusal to indulge in unauthorised activeties.
SOCIAL CHALLENGES |
---|
These are the challenges of the social life of a student which involves making friends, Peer pressure and standing out in the society. It’s not an easy task to fit in with other student from different homes and ethnic / religious background, Most of these attempt may lead to a great misunderstanding between colleges in the institute resulting to violence in most cases. Some people might get home sick after spending a few week outside their state of origin.
MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES |
---|
After a close evaluation of the above challenges one can come to a certain conclusion, that these might lead to a temporary break down in the mental health of an individual.
One might fall into a state of depression which may likely affect his or her studies, Some people might defer admission, Some might suspend their studies to tackle most of the above issues in their lives.
EXAMINATION |
---|
this for one should not be an issue if the student does not suffer the above challenges in his or her session of study. But if so they will suffer a great loss in examination due to instability of the mind to grasp knowledge and understanding in their field of study because of the pressure on their minds.
How my examination hall looks like |
---|
I myself tend to face these issues. So I would suggest that the authorities of the institution put certain measures in place to curb most of these horrible experiences. These measures may include;
- Counseling services
- Academic advising
- Peer support programs and
- Student loan support programs
I think these will go a long way to assist students in standing out and achieving excellence in their academics. Thank you all for reading and supporting , Wishe me good luck in my final examination for the semester tomorrow
