As Sumaya Orin, a mother to a little daughter and a devoted housewife, I have witnessed firsthand the allure and dangers of social media. In this digital age, platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram have become the epicenters of our online lives. But behind the shimmering facade lies a darker side—a side that we must acknowledge and address. So, today my topic of discussion is "The Dark Side of Social Media: My Personal Battle and the Road to Remedy "

Social media addiction has become a real concern, and it's a slippery slope. The constant scrolling, the endless notifications, and the desire to stay connected can easily consume us. Sometimes, while scrolling through my newsfeed, suddenly, OHHHH! Negative images and videos pop up out of nowhere, crashing my positive vibes party.

It's like a surprise visit from your annoying cousin who always ruins family gatherings. despite my best efforts to keep them out those unwelcome images continue to enter my social media newsfeed, leaving me with a sour taste in my mouth.

And let's not forget about the attention seekers. Oh man, people will do just about anything for those precious likes, views, and followers. They'll post the most ludicrous and bizarre things, fully unaware that they may genuinely make someone's day miserable. Seriously, have they gone completely insane? It's like they're living in an alternate reality where the only currency that matters is virtual popularity. Newsflash, folks: real life is where it's at!

Recently I have taken some steps to restrict myself from those things.
These are:

Step one:

Embrace the art of mindful scrolling. Yes, it's a thing! Instead of mindlessly swiping through endless content, set some boundaries and take control of your social media usage. Your sanity will thank you, I assure you.

Step two:

Curate your feed like a pro. Unfollow those accounts that consistently bring you down and spread negativity faster than a sneeze in a crowded room. Fill your timeline with uplifting voices, cute animal videos, and inspiring quotes. Who needs drama when you can have cat memes, right?

Don't fall into the comparison trap. Always keep in mind that social media acts as a highlight reel of people's lives. It's the filtered version, the perfect moments captured in time. So, instead of comparing yourself to those seemingly flawless beings, embrace your quirks, imperfections, and messy hair days. You're unique, and that's what makes you fabulous!

Last but not least, keep it real

Social media cannot replace real human interactions. Get out there and engage folks in direct conversation. Do things that make you happy offline, get together with pals for coffee (or chai, if you prefer), and participate in activities that make you happy. Remember, life happens beyond the

Conclusion

As I strive to strike a balance between my digital and real-life experiences, I'm learning that social media doesn't have to be a dark, gloomy place. By scrolling mindfully, curating our feeds, avoiding the comparison trap, and embracing real connections, we can make social media a fun and positive part of our lives. So, my fellow social media adventurers, let's conquer the not-so-social social media world together. Buckle up, keep those notifications in check, and get ready to surf the digital waves with a smile on your face. After all, life is too short to be dragged down by negativity, right? Cheers to a happier and healthier digital experience!
