It's no myth that good deeds are worth good memories. On this day 24 years ago which was Tuesday 6th,1999 I gave a news presentation at my School's end-of-the-year ceremony just like Julian Marshal of the BBC world service.
6th April 1999, I present the Newshour in my school just like Julian Marshall
I was just 9 years old that year and my school was about to close for the term….., Julian Marshal has always been my News presenter model, So when my teacher asked me what I will present on the event day I mentioned ”News presentation” and I wanted to use Julian Marshal Style while presenting the ” Newshour”. (I will tell you about my relationship with Julian Marshal in the later part of this publication).
But there was a problem..! I stammer, and my teacher wasn’t that confident in me, she felt I would embarrass myself in public and cause drama in the event. Because of that, she changed my role and gave me a different role that didn’t have to do with speaking. To me, that was so heartbroken and I didn’t like that decision! I cried.
When our head teacher noticed how I was so disappointed with that, she called me and asked privately if I can really handle that news presentation…..do you know what later happened?
Just before I dive into the full story that I am about to share now, I will like to talk about Julian Marshal and how I got to know him.

Who Is Julian Marshal?
Julian Marshall is a British journalist and radio broadcaster working for the BBC. Marshall is one of the main presenters of Newshour on the BBC World Service. He joined the BBC in 1975 and has been at Newshour since 1990, he attained his university in Africa - Zimbabwe to be precise, though later furthered his education in the UK.Ref
How did I know about Julian Marshal?
It all began way back when I was a kid, My Dad only plays the BBC world service on his dry cell radio, that’s the only radio station I can remember my Dad played 24/7. He was always updated with the most recent news around the globe even till this moment through the BBC world service.
At a point, I thought if this was the only radio station we have in the world…?
Back then he had a list of all the Programmes on BBC world service and their time, but he doesn’t miss the Newshour and the Newshour was always presented by Julian Marshall.
I can mimic Julian Marshall’s voice the whole day because that voice always lives in my brain right from childhood till this moment.
Back to the lead story
Okay, It’s time to tell you what happened as I promised from the onset. Well, My head teacher asked me to prepare news about the local activities around the school environment, and I was to present it in front of the class and also in front of the entire School after the school assembly, I agreed, and guess what happened? I was the Julian Marshall of Newshour that day in my School…!
Fast forward, my head teacher gave me the approval to present that during the ceremony, I did well that day in the presence of the entire parents including my parents. And my dad was smiling when he heard me mention that I am Julian Marshall, but he laughs so hard when I mimic Julian Marshall’s voice.
I did an amazing Job. And I won an Award as the best presenter in my school! I went home with many gifts and since then, I have always wanted to speak with Julian Marshall…I wonder if I will ever meet him someday, but I am positive!
My Dad coached me on how to speak in public, how to reduce my social phobia and even how to speak without stammering. (Someday, I will talk about some of the tips that really helped me over the years till this moment). He is a good public speaker and a coach.
And today?
After 24 years from the date I mentioned above - I am a good public speaker, I do my best as a presenter, and I have given over 750 public talks in different locations with an audience of 100 to 3000. And to express my passion when It comes to presenting, I have been running a program in the blog called - ” The Interview Showcase” and ” SteemTV, I may not be the best at handling this program, but just know that I do It with passion, I enjoy doing It.
If I don't tell you that I stammered, you will never know It because I talk without stammering.
I hope to have an Interview with Julian Marshall very soon..., mark my word and this day!
I am 33 now, and I still haven't seen Julian Marshall, I have tried to search for him on social media handles, but I can’t find him… I am just seeing fake accounts. I hope this message gets to him because I will broadcast it.

It is my dream to feature him someday on SteemTV, Yes, It is possible!
