Ignoring - Hashtags

in hive-153970 •  5 months ago  (edited)

Complaining why your content isn't found? Why you are not read, not rewarded? Indeed it's unfair because you wrote by far the best content Steemit has to offer, didn't you? You have proof because a curator gave you an upvote or you were nominated by a community so why, why, why are you ignored? Why is it that your average post is never rewarded.

Note: within 2 seconds people start to scroll!

I just read those words again

the only way to get rich is to always work hard!
For sure you are one of those nodding and repeating those words and saying it's true while some say no way (also true) and others don't care too much (rich is rich and money can work for itself).

Can You Do Better?

Yes, you can if it comes to reading your comments for a change, responding, and acting, especially if it comes to tips on how to improve.
Hello, there are people, Steemians, and moderators trying to help you, they even tell you how to be more visible, and what your entry to a contest misses to be able to win (SEC contest for example where rules rule).
Over 80% of those I give a tip don't respond or say: Next time I will.

There's no next time if you want to make your post visible within 7 days! The first compression counts but can be changed. Why take the time to give a lazy answer but not invest in improving yourself? It beats me.

I heard you, yes you there saying Why should I, the curator, and I are friends and I will receive that upvote anyway. Indeed, why should you if you already caught the BIG bonus without engaging, without caring about what your post looks like, without the need of editing or using the right hashtags? Why should you since you are not promoting yourself or standing behind what you wrote, right and you don't care about the picture you paint of yourself. I understand. It's just some text you posted on Steemit to earn and for the rest, it is keeping up appearances and with some luck, you are known all over the place without wasting too much energy.

A Unique Option: Edit

Steemit allows you to edit your post! Yes, it will use a part of your SP but to most of us this is no problem (newcomers are an exception so think before you post and reread what you wrote before you hit that button!).

If you check my posts you will notice they are all edited and if not they will be soon enough. Like everyone I make typos or even after reading 8 times, I still change sentences. I do the same with old content. I also change the hashtags! Why? Because what I wrote is important to me, this is a part of me I leave behind on the blockchain. Isn't it worth my time and energy, the investment? Shouldn't it be the same or even count more for you if you are here to make an income and see Steemit as your job?

What is a hashtag

A hashtag

  • is a label! You need it to be visible, to be found, and to be read!
  • stays for the topic of your content! Only the first 4 count in Steemit so use them for you!
  • says something about your niche. (what you will always be talking about). Any idea what yours is?
  • makes it possible to find content with the same topics, a source of information, likeminded Steemians, opens doors, is good for a chat, engagement, and building your circle of followers.

Of course, it's easy to blame #Steemit for their lousy, old-fashioned interface but the naked truth is all those newbies are drilled to write and use hashtags so how come it's such a mess? How come I read the biggest nonsense for hashtags like

Screenshot_20240716-132843_Samsung Internet.jpg

Check the hashtags or better copy-paste them to avoid mistakes. It would be good if hosts of contests would pay more attention to their hashtags as well and write them in a way that's easy to copy-paste like

Hashtags Rule Steemit

Use them and use the right ones! Indeed many hosts of contests use hashtags no sane person will use to search for content. This doesn't mean you have to follow in their footsteps and if you take part in a contest you should not use the hashtag "contest" since you are not hosting one.
You don't write a story/tale? Stop using the hashtag "story" this one is not for you. Your personal text about a photo or picture or your diary (thediarygame) is not a story unless you are the exception and wrote it like a tale.
If you only write text "photography" doesn't make sense, it is the wrong label and not the way to make yourself visible.
CreativeWriting? Over 90% of what I read is by far not creative. Creative writing needs more than a text, it's poetry, a part of what the participants joining "Art & Writing" hosted by @solperez write and so are a part of the free writers using prompts and writing with a timer.

AI content is not allowed dear Steemians, unless you are asked to do so by a host of a contest to test if each participant is fed with the same brainwashing info.
If you are too lazy to write stay away, or share some good photos, art, or whatever skill you have. There's no need to type 1000 words if you lack them and have no idea what the text you just posted is about. You can be creative and use the hashtag "creative"or join "entertainment"and be entertaining.
Yes, we use AI search tools to confirm what we think but the fact many AI text posters can hardly write says a lot (Indeed this Steemian, commenter, upvoter, and moderator takes the time to check your profile and has a great memory if it comes to names and writing style).

Hashtags on X (Twitter)

Steemit loves us to promote our content on X

The reason is to attract more people and preferably investors.
Before you start it is wise to watch the video above. Liked or not this is quite a shock. Hashtags are no longer used so it's a waste of characters you can better invest by writing a few lines of catching text! The long list of hashtags is useless to find a bigger audience and make them interested in Steemit. Let this sink and find a way to attract your audience.
If you watch the video above you will read/hear what this platform tries you to be aware of! Write good content, good as in attractive enough to be read and not skip you! Your first words visible should not be "greetings I am sure you are doing well" or "created with Canva". Check what others see before you post.
Being consistent? It is needed to beat the AI content (indeed there are on X as many as there are on Steemit).
Another advice is to post at a time when most people are online. Next to that, you should find those who are interested in your topic/niche yourself. So actively search for followers and add them first.

I am not an X fan and not very active but let's see if I can change something and if hashtags are no longer used on X. Personally, I wonder why steemit steem and a community should be added. I doubt it's used by Steemit or a community to find you. It's more to make their account look better.
I noticed there are still many old Steemit hashtags visible and even @steemitblog shows the old ones. does it make any sense to stay in the old circle of those who are already familiar with Steemit? If you ask me we all should step out and find a way to find those who are not familiar with Steemit yet. Indeed at times I do see a post of my interest via X I read and it's a nice plus but in the first place, we should promote ourselves. If we post our content in our community we should promote us! As we all know, only if we are good, worth reading we will be able to be the ambassador of Steemit Inc.

Mastering Writing - Write on a regular base

I hated the writing seminar
I hated the teacher
I hated the way they taught it
I hated the way they told me what to write
I hated the way they analyzed it
I hated that I was writing 5000 words and those with 10,000 became a bonus...
if no one reads it for a year, worst case I get more skilled
Dickie Bush

Should we stop using hashtags to promote us?

The advice is: give it a try for 5 posts or so and see if you reach more viewers and if you use hashtags not more than 5 and not always the same!

Before you can promote Steemit you need readers, and followers! You have to promote yourself in the first place. Why? Because it's about you but also you don't know how to promote Steemit, who to attract except by showing what you do and how successful you are.

How to improve your writing skills? By starting free writing. It's easy and only takes 5 minutes of your time. It's all about skills and the more you do it the easier it will be and if you haven't discovered it yet you will find your niche.

Note: The use of hashtags depends on the social media you use. Skilled users of Instagram testing sites and hashtags state it's better to use close to 30 hashtags than the 3-5 advised by Instagram. So wherever you write, promote yourself inform yourself, and try out what works the best for you.
Hashtags are not dead but no longer used in the way they were used. If you write good content the algorithm might use your hashtags so you have more traffic.

If it comes to Steemit? Use the right hashtags, those readers, and curators will use to find you.

I upvote comments and (good) entertaining stories. @hive-169911 is my hive (community). I will grow its SP to upvote stories only. Please, do NOT post in it!
If you wrote something good you can tag me, original (no AI-written) stories/tales only. You do not need to join a club to be read and upvoted and you can post wherever you like. I suggest the freewriters or @hive-107855 the Dream

This seems like an interesting thing in Steemit, and it would be good to always check the hashtag before publishing an article, because it is true that many steemians are wrong in providing their hashtag, thank you for this information

Hashtags are everywhere important also if not needed because if that's the case it saves time.
I posted my first two on X without hashtags and noticed after I did I saw complete different posts from before. I am not very active on X but will see if I can change that.

If it comes to Steemit I myself do not always find it easy to pick the right ones and if I only want to use four it's even harder.

I agree wholeheartedly with you! I know I'm am just a freshman on steemit, but I came to question somethings. And so far so good I've noticed that just the first hashtag which carries the contest title seems relevant as it is the only one that seems useful. The rest looks like a pitiful excuse.

Trying to ask why, it is that way, I'm told just write them. That's how it is always written, you won't see support if you don't

And I'm so glad you took pains to write this, it is one of the most enlightening thing I've read. But there lies a little problem, and that is, a need for reform, we steemians need to start adapting and be intentional about our every moves on steemit. The view that steemit is just an earning platform need a to be worked on. We are a blog and a blog with quality.

As for the X and other social media platform, though I'm not a big fan, i think it all boils down to how famous or how popular you are in the platform i.e your number of followers, variety of posts etc. You can't be posting just steem links on your profile and expect nonsteemians who are out there looking for thrills to click. Anywyas I'll do as you've just said, it's a pity though my followers on X is just too low.

Should I say this is a rare information I've seen on steemit. I've barely read such a detailed explanation of why hashtags are important..This would be very much beneficial to newcomers who think hashtags are just literally words placed anywhere. I see why you are always so intentional about hashtags when doing reviews on steemit. Permit me to ask - why doesn't the 5th hashtags reflect your posts if the hashtag is clicked on? Is it that the first four are more standard placements for visibility? Thanks a lot for this post. I'll need to share it to my friends as this is also one of the reasons why most people have their posts invisible for curation as you said. Now that most curators are curating based on tags, it would be important to consider placements.

I have mixed success with hashtags, some day it works and some it does not.

Can be it's not the hashtag but your text. Are you on X or other platforms using hashtags?

This is great, I have the knowledge about what I've never been told or known about hashtags. This is very educative and insightful, thanks for this. I hope many people will read this and also learn as much as I have.

Here's sending you best regards and.

Thank you dear, I hope it benefits you. Your text deserves to be found and read.

🍀❤️

It does benefits me a lot. I need to read over and over again to avoid the common mistakes I make while writing a post.

Thank you so much.

Thank you very useful

I hope it is helpful, it's kind of a puzzle. If it comes to the internet it might also depend on your location how visible you are.

For so far my last comtest in K4B

It is a great privilege reading this your post ma, because I have learn about hashtags and how to set them well according to the way the moderator arrange it in his or her contest...

With this great post of urs I have learn how to arrange it, Thanks for sharing this wonderful post ma...

I am not sure what you mean by "according to the moderator", do you mean the host of the contest or both?
Both can be wrong and if you want to promote what you write it's wise to use the right hashtags.
On Steemit and wherever you post. X , Instagram, facebook aren't using the same methods. Perhaps soon enough the will but you have to try out what works for you.

Funny that I uploaded an article about hashtag too one day after this post of yours.
Thanks for sharing, wakeupkitty.

Your friend told me... Kind of alarmed asked if I spoke to you. 🤔
Did we?

What's going on between you guys?

Nope .. We didn't talk about it. I had prepared the articles days before you uploaded that one, The article started as reply to a mod comment. But when I was writing, it got longer and longer, I decided to turn it to an article.

Then, when I want to send to the community, I told myself "It could be a good theme for a discussion and force engagement in community". So I edit it to fit the purpose. I learn a lot about you in how to push an engagement in comment section. I will keep on learning.

A few days before I uploaded the article, I asked for permission from you and @el-nailul to host a contest on K4B and/or SBL, but for a different topic. I still have the draft. Haha. "Maybe one day," I told myself.

Hey, don't worry. Nothing bad happen between us. We're still communicating. He is one of the very first people I know from Steemit and we are still keeping contact with each other. He is also the very first one person (among a few people) I will come to when I have something to question about Steemit. We never met face to face until this day, but I take him as a very good friend, a respectful one, the one that will be there.

To why he was away from Steemit for several days, he refused to give a clear answer, only a joke in his own way. I do hope everything will get better if there's something bad going on. It's good to see that he's back.

Since weeks if not months or years the discussion about hashtags continues but it would help if communities are strict. They just complain but do not act. You can't say A and do B. It's what happens here whole the time. If you set rules stick to them yourself and if you forgot edit.

Commenting can be learned but takes a lot of time. These contests are most time consuming because you have to keep answering and even if you do there's a big chance, no matter how long your reply and if there are questions, you never receive an answer back.
Look at the present monkey business with fun for a topic.
It's clear who joins, who looks for and shares humour and who doesn't. So the question is should I continue with this? Are people only willing to say something if I invite them at least twice and they can win the jackpot? Does it bring me anything?

It doesn't feel as if steembetterlife is a club of oeople interested in another or finding different ways to improve their lives.
It isn't all about money.
We have creativity, skills, fun, beauty, music, hobbies, memories, compliments and so much more to better our life if there is awareness.

At times I wonder how many real humans exist. It's as if they are all robots. Machines learned the trick and no brain to think or create.

If it comes to contests - talk with chasad yesterday - there are days/rules, it has to be asked and topic needs to fit to the community.

I don't know what you want to host and if it's visible for many but @freewritehouse is a possibility. I will host a contest there since those responding are mainly freewriters.

I went to see the doctor the other day. She said I shouldn't stay up late. Yes, hosting a comment contest is time consuming.

Do you visit a doctor to hear that? You can stay up late or the entire night as long as you sleep.

Sleep is sleep it doesn't mattee when.

P. S. As I read the first line between the replies I thought you started a fun tour commenting.

Yes. It will make a good opener for a joke.

Haha.

I am preparing something for Crypto Academy, I have to read a lot from internet. Hahaha. I think I am smarter than last week. Or maybe dumber, coz they say, "the more you know, the more you don't know".

Haha.

Holy are the stupid... No breaking brains

I'm relearning afresh the importance of hashtags and the role it plays in helping our steemit admins find our posts easily.

Thank you for this write-up.

You are welcome and most important you make yourself visible. This should be about you. Promote yourself.

You reminded me of Hubpages, Squidoo, and other similar sites where I used to write until 2012, but all these sites could not stand the pay rate Bubblews offered, which was another PPV, and with my 32K Twitter followers, I reached the payout within 3–4 days. I remember some of the authors using as many as 50 hashtags on each of their hubs/lenses and getting good results.

I hope users on this site read your post and learn the basics like I did. I am feeling wiser after reading this great post.

Hashtags back in 2007 worked different from today. I am trying out tags for a while now and will test X from now on without hashtags or at most 2-3.
I am not using Instagram or otherbplatforms so I can't tell how they work. Let's see if more experienced users can share some tips.

Back then 50 hashtags did the trick to be found today, according to two experts instagram still works best with 30 hashtags. True? Can be not and their text is good or they already have many active followers.

Thanks for commenting and sharing your experience. It's clear we have to change to be noticed butbalso if we want to promote Steemit.

🍀❤️

I have no account on Instagram or Facebook, but on Twitter only. I had four accounts on Twitter back then, but now there are just two, and one of them is official. But what I feel is that our Twitter efforts are least effective unless we bring our visitors to a specific page that tells them about Steemit and its way of working instead of users' posts (I doubt if any outsiders come though). Let's do a professional job for publicity rather than making it mandatory for ignorant users writing essays. I believe these shares are not helping the site in any way.
