Understanding of the expressions “Seeing is Believing” and “Knowing is Believing”

"These two expressions, ‘Seeing is Believing’ and ‘Knowing is Believing’, reflect different ways of perceiving reality.

‘Seeing is Believing’ implies that we can only trust something if we have witnessed it with our own eyes.

Whereas, ‘Knowing is Believing’ indicates that we can only trust something if we have learned everything about it."

Both phrases deal with belief, yet the foundation of that belief varies. In 'Seeing is Believing,' belief is based on sensory evidence, while 'Knowing is Believing' grounds belief in knowledge and understanding.

Some people place greater trust in 'Seeing is Believing,' believing that confidence is more robust in what we've witnessed personally. For this reason, people often prefer to see new items before purchasing, reinforcing their trust in the decision.

Conversely, those who trust 'Knowing is Believing' argue that belief extends beyond mere observation to include comprehensive knowledge of the subject. They believe that purely sensory evidence can deceive, but thorough research and understanding solidify our conviction.

Both perspectives are valid in their own right, yet both can be flawed. Sometimes what we see can be deceptive, and occasionally our research proves incorrect. Hence, it's best to utilize both approaches in understanding reality, strengthening our conviction.

Examples of “Seeing is Believing” vs. “Knowing is Believing”

Consider, for instance, visiting a new place we've never been to before. We can only know as much as we've heard or read about the place. However, upon seeing the place with our own eyes, we believe in its reality - a manifestation of 'Seeing is Believing.'

In contrast, if we read about a scientific theory that declares something possible, though unseen, we understand the theory, familiarize ourselves with the evidence, and hence believe - an example of 'Knowing is Believing.'

Both methods seek to comprehend reality, where 'Seeing is Believing' is more experiential, and 'Knowing is Believing' is more intellectual. Both hold importance and are employed in different situations.

On a personal note, I never thought I could talk in my sleep until my roommate told me so. I didn't initially believe him, but when he showed me a video recording, I was convinced - an example of 'Seeing is Believing.'

Within the framework of science, Einstein's Theory of Relativity serves as a suitable example. It tells us that time and distance affect each other, and their values can vary. Though we've never seen this with our eyes, once we attempt to understand the theory, we believe in it - an example of 'Knowing is Believing.' These examples clarify that sometimes we believe in things by seeing them, and sometimes we acquire knowledge and believe.

Moral message from the Expression “Seeing is Believing” vs. “Knowing is Believing”

A lesson drawn from 'Seeing is Believing' versus 'Knowing is Believing' is that sometimes we believe in things by seeing them, only to find out later that they weren't what we thought. Hence, we should always strive to expand our knowledge to make informed decisions.

Es paradójico si se quiere, pero, a veces aunque veamos, no creemos porque no es lo que nos satisface; es por ello que el conocimiento es quien da la verdadera libertad a mi parecer.

Thank you for stopping by my post. 😊

According to Our Load Buddha, it is advisable to put these teachings into practice, to understand them, and to have faith in them. That is a good example of knowing and believing.

I agree that it is important to not only know and believe in teachings, but also to put them into practice and understand them. This can help us to live a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Thank you for your visit. 😊

You are welcome.

Great post!
For me there is only one line.. Seeing and knowing is believing.
I want to see it and I want to know that it is correct before I will believe it.
People are too easily gullible that it is actually scary. Social media, YouTube, and Google made it to easy for people to spread the wrong information.
Good luck with the contest!

Thank you for visiting my post. It really means a lot to me. 😊
