After two years after the release of Gorilla Glass 6, Corning officially announced on Thursday (07/23/2020) that the company will present its newest glass version, named Gorilla Glass Victus.

Reported by The Verge, the latest glass series will be present in the latest mobile phones belonging to the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy.

Through its official website, Corning claims the Victus series to be the most powerful series among all the glass they have ever made. Based on product trials, Victus is known to have twice the durability of the Gorilla Glass 6 series or equivalent to four times the durability of competitors.

The extraordinary durability of Victus lies in its anti-scratch strength even though it is dropped from a maximum height of 2 meters and falls on hard and rough surfaces. With this endurance, Victus has at least a drop resistance of up to 20 collisions at an average height of 1 meter. This means 5 times more than Gorilla Glass 6, which only lasts 15 times the collision and its maximum height only reaches 1.6 meters.

However, Jaymin Amin, Vice President and Scientist at Corning for Gorilla Glass, still warns that basically this durability is also affected by how your cellphone falls.

Sand, metal and other materials can still be a threat to this new glass. However, this cannot be said to be truly perfect, although it is admittedly very strong compared to other series.

"I think the warning will still apply to any glass material. But what is done for you is to reduce the incident quite dramatically, "Jaymin Amin was quoted as saying by The Verge.

Corning confirmed that Victus will first be on the market through the latest Samsung Galaxy cellphone series in the coming months.
